How to Wear a Bra with a Backless Dress

Going out to a fancy dinner party or celebration may require a more upscale and elegant dress.  A backless dress is one choice for a woman when she is celebrating a special occasion or night out on the town.  It is a fashion statement that can be very sexy and glamorous if worn in the right way.  Women can also show off a bit more of their bodies but in a sophisticated way.  The one issue that every woman faces when planning to wear a backless dress is choosing the right kind of bra for support and comfort.

The Wrap Around

The first way to determine whether the wrap around bra is the right choice is to look at your backless dress and determine just how it is made.  Depending on the type of sleeve or no sleeve, straps or no straps, you want the dress to make the fashion statement, not your bra.  A wrap around convertible bra gives wonderful support.  Both the shoulder straps and back straps are adjustable.  You can move and position them in various ways so that they fit the style of your backless dress.  The wrap around bra also has a low back band that sits around the waist with no shoulder straps needed for support.  By far, this type of bra is the most popular to wear and offers the most support especially if you have a large bust.

Sews Them Right In

If the backless dress you have chosen has a plunging backline, then your next option is to sew cups into the dress itself.  It is very easy to do if you are handy at sewing.  But you can have a specialist do the job for you for an added cost to you.  It is best to remember if you sew cups into your garment, make sure that the positioning of the cups are at a comfortable level and do not interfere with the backless dress effect.  You may have to actually tailor your dress to get the right effect.  This method is especially effective for backless wedding gowns and for women with a C cup or smaller.

Stick It to Me

Another great option, especially for smaller chested women is the stick on bra.  This works very well under a backless dress, but if you are larger than a C cup, you may want to consider other options.  Just as the name states, this type of bra has an adhesive so that the bra sticks directly onto the skin.  This allows for support without having to worry about a strap across your back.  They are usually made of a silicone material that is lightweight.  If choosing this option, just make sure that there is enough support so that you do not have any worries about a saggy or drooping bust line.

Did you say Pasties?

One final option for you to consider are pasties or petals.  These are very useful especially is you have a small bust.  Pasties allow you cover up without distracting from the backless dress effect.  Like the stick on bra, they are usually made from silicone and have an adhesive, but only cover the nipples.  You will not receive much support from them and are work best on smaller busted women.

Possible alternative

Depending on the plunge of the dress, “As Seen on TV” Ahh Bra may be a great alternative to the more traditional bra.  The Ahh Bra available at Carol Wright Gifts have no annoying wires, hooks or adjustable straps to can irritate and dig into your skin.  The Ahh Bra follows the curves and gives support.  Made up of nylon and spandex, the Ahh Bra may be a good alternative for comfort and support that you are seeking.
