Homeland Security on a copyright violation witch hunt

torrent_download_bit.jpg

Isn’t it funny how my copyright final is only weeks away, and the Federal Government has suddenly gone on a copyright infringement witch hunt and closed down numerous websites without any notice or due process.Congress has been trying to pass a bill that would allow the Justice Dept. to seek expedited court orders and shut down infringing websites, the bill is called COICA. Combating online infringement and copyright act. If you bothered to read the link, you’ll notice that the BILL HAS NOT BEEN PASSED YET.

The Federal Government has prematurely used ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to seize a number of online sites that are accused of copyright of infringement. So far the websites that have been taken down offer a variety goods from hats, scarfs, golfing gear, to rap music have now been replaced with love note (seen below) from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. So far torrent-finder.com has been taken down. I believe that this will devastate the future of Peer to Peer music and software sharing in the United States of America. (note: COICA will allow the Gov’t to seize access to foreign owned sites too!)

First off, what is ICE doing enforcing copyright law, doesn’t Homeland Security have their hands full being touchy feely at the airports. Secondly, I agree with congressman Ron Wyden as he states:

“Deploying this statue to combat online copyright infringement seems almost like using a bunker-busting cluster bomb, when what you need is a precision-guided missile,” he said during a hearing on digital trade. “If you don’t think this thing through carefully, the collateral damage would be American innovation, American jobs, and a secure Internet.”

Thirdly, what if we here at Fame Appeal accidently infringe on someone’s 106 Copy Rights, and suddenly my website is taken down, what relief do I have ?!?!?
