If you've come to a point where you're ready to add on to your existing home, consider an addition that will not only increase your enjoyment, but express your personal style. Something geared toward your own tastes will be that much more satisfying to live with. Here are four ideas that are perfectly functional but allow room for innovative styles.

Front Entry

This is the first thing that people approaching your house will see. A front entry should be inviting, yet make a statement. You have a wide selection of doors, such as decorative fiberglass, classic wood, or etched glass. Front steps could be metal, tile, flagstones, and many other options. There's also a wide range of illumination choices, from modern recessed lighting to fancy exterior chandeliers. With a little planning and product research, you can create any atmosphere that fits your personality.

New Roof

Replacing your roof is necessary from time to time, and can make a huge difference in your home's visual impact. Asphalt shingles are common, but even these come in different sizes and textures. Other choices are slate, concrete, fiber cement, or galvanized metal tiles or panels. Metal tiles can also have a variety of patterns or surfaces that make a distinct statement. You can generally find the roof materials you like in a range of styles and colors.

Deck or Gazebo

These afford you more outdoor living space, but you have a number of creative options. For instance, you can use any wood or stained finish you like. Rails, posts, and hardware could be plain, decorative, or made from other materials like wrought iron or aluminum. You can add extendable awnings of different sizes and styles to you deck, or exotic Japanese or Polynesian designs for your gazebo.

Swimming Pools

From Olympic-sized models to extravagant grottoes, by working with a contractor like Bonnie & Clydes Above Ground Pools & Spas or a similar firm you can find the pool of your dreams. The pool itself might be fiberglass or concrete, and surrounded by a deck of flagstones, tiles, or a variety of other materials. Pool shapes go from standard rectangles to oval, kidney, crescents, or anything you can imagine.

You can add other features like diving boards, slides, an oasis of dazzling plants, ornate waterfalls, built-in whirlpool baths, and endless choices in lighting to provide a unique pool experience by day or night. Your budget is your only limitation. But commitment and creativity in even one major style change can totally transform the feel of your own home.
