A grandad celebrating his golden wedding anniversary had his life saved by a “guardian angel” nurse sitting in front of him on a plane.
Peter Davies collapsed with a cardiac arrest as he flew home from a break in Dublin,the Birmingham Mail reports .
But an off-duty nurse on the Ryanair flight rushed to give emergency resuscitation treatment as he lay in the aisle.
The 73-year-old was taken to Birmingham’s Heartlands Hospital after the plane touched down – and was discharged just two days later.
Peter’s family said it was fate that the nurse was on board – and now they want to find her to express their thanks.
His daughter Kirsty said: “She was my father’s guardian angel.”
Peter, from Perry Barr, was taken ill as he flew back to Birmingham with wife Pauline, Kirsty and her husband, Richard, last Friday afternoon.
The family had spent two nights in Dublin celebrating Peter and Pauline’s 50 years of marriage, which passed on March 5.
The incident took place on a Ryanair flying back from Ireland
Kirsty said: “It was the most terrifying moment of my life.
“A woman sitting in front of my father got up and said she was a cardiac arrest nurse.
“She took over and for the next ten to 15 minutes worked non-stop on him until we landed. Another woman, called Megan, also helped.
“Although she wasn’t a nurse she just reacted to the situation and wanted to help and I am so grateful to her.
“Without their quick-thinking and help, my father would not be here today.”
Peter, who founded Smethwick-based company Professional Polishing Services, is now recovering at home.
Kirsty, 43 and from Witton, runs the business.
She said: “The four of us had such a wonderful time in Dublin.
“We were 15 minutes from landing when my father collapsed.
“He has never had problems with his heart but suffered a stroke in the past.
“I immediately thought he was having another on. My father is now back at home.
“But he is still dazed and confused and will need a lot of time to recover.”
Kirsty managed to track down Megan and thanked her but is still looking for thenurse .
She said: “I want to find this incredible woman, to thank her and to invite her to dinner with myself and my family. “It it wasn’t for her my father wouldn’t be here today.
“She needs to know how very grateful we are and what a special lady she is.”
