The pendants are just in very poor taste.
It's just wrong.
I believe they were probably trying to do a take-off of sorts of the harajuku lovers characters ( those little fragrance bottles) and in doing so, they missed the mark totally.
They could have and should have used any exquisite beaded or turquoise pieces from native american aritsans.
There are so many other elements from native american culture which the fashion industry does use..and I think there will be a resurgence in native american influences.
Most notably, the fringed boots which Isabel Marant sent down the runway.
I've also seen references to turquoise jewelry.
Sadly, I don't believe that many people who wear 'fashion oriented native american influences' really know what native american culture is all about.

I think you're right about the harajuku influence, but yes, they totally missed it. I'm glad that the native american population is finally making some noise (in a big way) about the blatant use of cultural designs being appropriated by the fashion industry that do have meaning to each tribe/nation (most people have no idea how many tribes/nations there are and the subtle differences in their artwork/designs that differentiate them from others ). I feel it's a complete lack of respect for a culture that has such a rich and diverse wealth of art not to mention traditional knowledge...It should be revered and respected not used in a tacky and cheap way a la Urban Outfitters.
As a woman/designer of Native American heritage, I strive to present those ancient and powerful designs in a way that exemplifies their beauty...I hope people will become more aware of the true beauty of Native American culture and design in the future.
