Hair loss can be very depressing as it takes away from you an important part of your overall appearance.

I remember when I started experiencing increased hair loss, I took all the measures to divert my mind. Including binge-watching, some light mood shows on my Spectrum TV packages whenever depressed. And that was almost all the time!  Eventually, I opted for a hair transplant. If you too are considering it as an option, you should know the following:

The Right Candidate

Before you consider spending huge sums of money on getting a hair transplant done, you should first see if you are the right candidate for a hair transplant or not. Ideally, a person whose hair loss is stabilized qualifies as the perfect candidate for a hair transplant. Because hair transplant will not affect the hair loss progression.

Age

Your age is also an important deciding factor of whether you should get a hair transplant or not. Surgeons do not advice kids under 18 to get a hair transplant done. In case, a guy wants to get it done, he will need permission from his parents.

Will the Hair Grow?

A common concern among individuals who are considering a hair transplant is whether the transplanted hair grows or not. For this, you need to understand that the area from which the cosmetologists extract the hair for hair transplant purposes is called a reliable donor area.

The two most famous body sites that qualify as reliable donor areas include the back of the head and the ears. So, if the hair in these regions continues to grow, the transplanted hair on the head will grow too. You should, however, take the following factors in mind to ensure that the hair transplant is permanent:

  • Taking hair from near the ears or back of the head.
  • An expert surgeon to perform the procedure
  • Follow the advice and medication as told

Hair Transplant not an Enhancement

One must also know that hair transplant does not mean that you will have a head full of thick hair. That will be a very dramatic effect if someone promises it to you. You must keep a couple of things in mind including the fact that regrowth of hair varies from person to person.

The density of hair that returns on your head after the transplant depends on the quantity of hair that the surgeon transplants. This indirectly depends on the hair available in your reliable donor area.

It is Permanent

Another thing that you should know is that hair transplant is a permanent procedure. Surgeons take hair from one part of your body and relocate it on the other. This makes hair transplant a permanent procedure.

Therefore, you cannot consider going for a trial on a small patch for hair transplants. As whatever procedure happens will stay there. It will be binding upon you to go through the whole procedure once you start the process.

Need for Medications

Some people think that to maintain the results, they will have to take some medicines after a hair transplant. This is not true. As mentioned above, a hair transplant is a permanent procedure. However, you must understand that you can continue to lose hair from areas where you did not get a hair transplant. Because hair transplant does not stop hair loss.

No Pain, No Gain

Another common concern that people raise before considering a hair transplant as an option is whether it hurts or not. Because it is a surgical process, it does irritate. However, the surgeons take measures to help ensure that the process is smooth and as pain-free for the patient as it can be.

In short, you will only feel a little uncomfortable during the process but you won’t have to deal with pain.

Side Effects

A factor that worries the majority is the occurrence of any side effects after the procedure. According to studies, hair transplant does not have side effects. Unless you opt for an inexperienced surgeon. You may see a temporary scar on the area where the transplant took place. But that too vanishes in a matter of 8-10 days.

If you experience hair loss after hair transplant from other areas of your scalp that is due to your genetic disorder. Hair transplant is not to be blamed.

Frequency

The surgeons advise getting the hair transplant done once. However, if you are at a stage where your hair will continue to fall and the bald patch is increasing, you can opt for a couple of sittings. The period between each sitting depends on the growth of the donor hair area. However, surgeons recommend that a safe gap is somewhere between 5 and 6 months.

Cost

You will have to bear a considerable cost for getting the procedure done. Therefore, consider the funds or saving you have available before you opt for a hair transplant.

Do remember that you may have to wait before the surgeon invites you in for a procedure. You might want to consider taking a book with you. I had access to Spectrum Internet. Therefore, waiting was not a painful thing for me. Hopefully, you too will have smooth sailing!
