I have graduated from Southampton Solent university with a respectable high grade, studying full time on a fashion media Styling, hair and make up design BA Hons degree course. I am intensely passionate about fashion, for which I am enthusiastic to apply to a work place where there are opportunities to grow and develop.
The skills and knowledge I have gained whilst at University was just the beginning of my pursuit towards a career within the industry. I believe that my dedicated work ethic combined with my desire to learn everything about the fashion industry will make me a valuable asset to the fashion business. I am self motivated but also like collaborating with in a team, exercising creative thinking and adaptability where possible. I use a wide range of resources and research to develop my work, where time management and working under pressure is vital.
My aims are to combine my current work experience and fashion education to photo shoots, catwalk, events and styling to a leading company within the fashion industry.
Fashion Industry Experience
Company Magazine, Hearst Publishing, Oxford st, December 2012 -January 2013
Being able to multi task was key within this job role, organisation was of the upmost importance as you are expected to keep the fashion cupboard in a functional order whilst contributing to the magazine, whether that be booking appointments for the stylist, finding prices for special features or calling in clothes for the fashion editor. Creating a good relationship with PR agencies makes communication efficient so tasks such as returns can be done as fast as possible. Many important jobs were passed down from the fashion Editor and Director to meet print deadlines.
Wonderland Magazine, Nottinghill Gate, November 2012-December 2012
Wonderland magazine gave me the opportunity to step outside the usual role as a fashion assistant, sourcing locations and props which were alternative on behalf of the fashion director. The constant challenge was exciting, where I was able to go beyond expectations for my role. Along side this I did a great deal of travelling which allowed my knowledge of london, key PR agencies and Designers to grow by knowing exactly where they are situated. I often visited Showrooms where I would pull clothes for shoots from East London and Central and took part on a shoot which I personally set up. However it remained important to keep up my key role in the fashion cupboard and remain a PA supporting the fashion Director.
The Times Newspaper LUXX Magazine, Tower Hill October 2012- November 2012
Working at The Times LUXX magazine has enabled me to work not only in the office but within the studio, which has been a great learning experience, enabling me to help assist the fashion director and assistant editor with styling and ensuring the shoot runs smoothly, from the setting up to the packing away, having had the opportunity to work with incredible athletes,
actors and models.
Within the office I helped with PR work as well as helping the team make deadlines to go to print. I conducted a lot of personal research for LUXX magazine and helped on occasions with The Times Magazine, which was also on the same floor. It is a close Knit team, which meant I learnt a great deal from the most experienced members in the department at LUXX.
FashionGoodieclub.com, Covent Garden June 2012- August 2012
Fashion Goodie Club is an online fashion website that is in the process of launching, it aims to make fashion more accessible incorporating a social platform to do so. I am currently involved in the start up process which means I am lending my skills in many different areas of the business, from the design of the website to the financial aspects which need addressing in the early stages. Research is the most important aspect to my job role currently and helping build an online social presence for the for the company working closely with the CEO.
Graduate Fashion Show London 2011 Brick lane
This was a fantastic insight into the backstage running of a catwalk show. I worked behind the scenes as a dresser, making sure the clothes were organised and the models were dressed and went out on the run way in time. Time management was key and making sure the models were well looked after throughout the day. I also took part in assisting the make up team when help was needed. My range of skills allows me to end a helping hand at the show where possible.
River Island, September 2008 – July 2010
Working at River Island gave me key skills I can apply to any work place such as:
• Excellent customer service/customer styling
• Trend forecasting & best sellers
• Window displays & dressing mannequins
• Handling telephone calls
• Problem solving
