Is it worth it to go to School for Fashion Design, or can you be successful, without formal education?

Hi all,I've been considering, how much is the Fashion Design degree really worth? If I go to school and spend all that money, then I will have background knowledge, but can just as easily be using those four years to build my own company without formal education. I am aware that schooling does help with connections, and networks you would probably not else encounter. My question is for the current and past Fashion Design students, what school did you attend? Also, was it worth it, in your…See More

About Me ...
Growing up I would page through the glossy sheen of magazines. Read and drool over every imaginative dress I saw. Staring intently at the colors and fantasy of the scene. I want to be known as a great designer. And I'm not stopping until they have my dress on their hips and my name on their lips......
Fashion Industry Experience
I now work at Destini here in Atlanta as a fashion intern.
Favorite Fashion Designer or Fashion Brand
Chanel, Michael Kors, Guess, Baby Phat, Oscar de la Renta,
What is your favorite fashion website? (list the web address, NOT the fashion sites name. If you only list the name, the link to your favorite fashion site will not work...)

Wide leg trousers. They emphasize a good tushie and elongate the legs. Works with heels or flats.

The House of Me'Dina, a moderately priced designer brand is having a launch party for her spring collection of feminine dresses and bold tops. The previous collection can be seen at http://www.etsy.com/shop/HouseofMeDina if you wish to purchase her items, but hurry supplies are limited and one of a kind. Just Another One of Them Days.... :)

Posted on February 6, 2012 at 3:00pm 0 Comments

My days consist of getting up(.....eh.....5 more minutes) and cleaning loose threads and the remains of whatever I designed yesterday(yikes!). Drag myself to the kitchen to grab a cup of hot cocoa(mmm....) and wake up for the day. I bring the Cocoa into the room, and look around at my studio, brightly lit from the sun. The headless but well dressed (If I might say so myself, he he) mannequin sits in the corner, beckoning me to outdo what she has worn before. I look at the clothing rack full…

The Industry-Winning Combo

Posted on August 15, 2011 at 11:51pm 0 Comments

As I tiptoe,.... one pinky at a time, into the raging (rhymes with itch) fights, sleek, flowing dress and heel combos of the modern fashion industry. I wonder how it's all managed. The various seamstresses, tailors, pattern makers, couture and ready to wear designers. ? How does this run so smoothly? How do people even get dressed in the morning? Colors, and pleats and ruffles, oh my! I see I'm not in Kansas, anymore, which is good, because I haven't...ever been to Kansas. So I push up my… Continue
