In late 2007, I launched www.Blackcatplus.com, my plus size contemporary web clothing boutique for women who wear sizes 14W-24W. As an international trainer and speaker on women’s leadership and workplace gender issues, I created my e-boutique which caters to women who want to wear contemporary, stylish clothing. As a working professional, and a Size 18, I spent considerable time and effort trying to find clothes which have an up-to-date, professional look. In my search, I found that what the department stores offered did not meet my expectations. Out of that frustration came the inspiration to open a web clothing boutique so that other plus size women did not have to work so hard to find clothes which reflected current styles and were life style and age appropriate. My primary objective was to find clothing that one would not see in a large department store, and provide a more distinct offering which reflects the lifestyles of her customers.
In every city where I had speaking engagements I was always on a mission to find plus size clothing stores where I could shop. There were many times while I was doing presentations that I thought the women were talking about me. They were! They wanted to know where I got my clothes or wanted to ask me style questions after the presentation or training session. I decided to start my own business after I sold a suit off my back to a woman who attended one of my sessions. She needed it for a big presentation of her own the next day and she did not have time to go out and shop.
Most recently, we added the local (Rochester, NY) show room so that we can have the ability to test styles and get opinions of customers and translate it to a larger market. Because of our dual focus, we can do a lot of the leg work for today's busy woman and find styles with a fit that works well on the various body types of plus size women.
I also host a monthly radio program on BlogTalkRadio.com (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/blackcatplusradio) which airs on the second Wednesday of each month. A Radio-Television major who worked in Radio and Cable Television, I am excited to return to my roots and work with this new medium to reach a broader audience. Black Cat Plus Radio will feature interviews with plus size designers, stylists, models, and fitness and lifestyle experts.
Black Cat Plus offers contemporary and stylish selections from brands including, Svoboda, Kiyonna, Sienna Rose, Comfy USA, Fenini, Simply Silk, and Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, as well as Canadian Designer Linda Lundstrom, Diane Kennedy, Neon Buddha and Pure & Co. Love what you are doing - and love Black Cat Plus website. I sort of found the same thing when researching adaptive clothing - nothing fashionable out there. So I launched Versa AccessWear in February...bring fashion to women with limited physical mobility. Good luck to you!
