Women
We are alike,
We bring forth babies.
We share a history of sordid denial.
Yet, we are different.
Our cultures are rich with the diversities that separate
what makes us endless.
Derived from determination, despite an insignificant past.
We are still the tangible materials interwoven from the Earth.
Our future inspires us, like the honey of the comb;
each drop of sweetness leads us to a devotion of a universal journey.
We are familiar.
Though generations have denied us aspirations
from the beginning of this expedition,
we are complex creatures of simplicity.
Yet we don’t claim,
we candidly go on, knowing that we are the givers of life.
We are spellbound with the Spirit of our Highest.
We form the cultures of many nations.
Breathtaking in our likeness,
though some of us are built with the strength of hurricanes,
We still hold the frames of the most delicate creature.
We are aspiring to be the uncommon among the common,
and the dreamers that make reality.
We are beauty, simplicity, honor, and authenticity,
We are women creating our own destiny!

Worthy
Who am I to say that you are not worthy to be called a man?
I don’t know your experience,
I don’t know what built the unbreakable walls that stand…
The walls stand between your idea of being and acting like a man.
There is a difference between the two.
You see, when you are a man, no one can place limitations on your life,
no one else is to blame for the path that you’ve chosen.
You don’t condemn anyone for being where you are.
You realize that you have the power to overcome.
You don’t give up on your goals, dreams, and visions.
You know in your heart that you walk in the image of God.
So unafraid, you take on the challenges that you’ve envisioned.
You make the best of the hand that you’ve been dealt without
giving up your own decisions.
On the other hand,
acting like a man means your are holding on to anger,
believing that you must not share your true emotions,
while putting on a face that says,
“I’m in control” when deep down inside,
you are so far from your soul. You have no purpose,
you are acting like a man who has been taught to be a lessen.
In spite of this, who am I to say you are not a man?
I can’t determine how you got to be where you are.
I do believe that if I’d look at where you came from,
I can image you being afraid.
Afraid to break barriers, build bridges and
believe that any other way would
leave you with no dignity.
Despite the fact that you don’t understand your place just yet,
Who am I to say you are not worthy to be called a man?
I can say, think of your sons, for they are the generation that
is being taught by what they see.
You must reach down inside of you black man,
you must confirm your beliefs.
Find your place and teach our young black boys to be men,
men who believe and entrust themselves to look to their
spirits as their source of help.
Know in your heart when I fuss, scream and cry
I don’t mean to take away your pride.
I don’t know how to help you understand, but I do know
that I have no right to disqualify your positions.
A position never explained or shown to you by example.
I have no right to say you are not a man.
