Have you ever looked around at your friends’ footwear choices and thought to yourself, “Why do they always get it right? My shoes never look as good!” and then lament to yourself about why you never quite hit the mark when it comes to footwear fashions?

If you do, then don’t worry. You aren’t alone. Many women have the same issues. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to help address this, and the main thing is to understand the “rules of footwear fashion”.

Today, we are going to teach you five of the rules to help you get it right when you buy your next pair of shoes.

  1. The Right Type of Ankle Straps Will Create a Slimming and Elegant Effect

If you shy away from ankle straps then think again. The addition of a thin strap wrapping elegantly around your ankle will go a long way in creating a flattering look.

Never opt for thick straps – ½ a centimetre should be the optimal thickness. Any more than that and you risk making your feet appear chunky and less feminine.

If you're short, beware of wearing any type of ankle strap because it can lend the appearance that you are even shorter than you are, and this can in turn make you appear a little tubbier – hardly the sexy look you were probably aiming for!

If you are short, and you desperately want to wear ankle straps, then make sure that they are ultra-thin and ultra-lightweight. Alternatively, stick to a brand such as Rieker boots. These will draw attention to your ankles in the same way that an ankle strap would, but they will not create the same appearance of “chunkiness”.

  1. The Correct Choice of Heel Will Create a Slimming and Elongating Effect

When it comes to heels, there’s really only one choice if you're looking for a flattering and feminine look: slim heels that are curvy. Such heels include stilettos and kitten heels. We would recommend opting for the latter as they have the same effect as stiletto, but are much better for your feet.

Larger heels tend to be clunky, and while they look good in some respects, they are not flattering in the same way that a slim heel is flattering. The most important thing to look for in a heel is the curve. It should look chunkier at the top and slim down in a curve towards the bottom.

  1. Pointed Toes Will Elongate and Slim the Legs

Finally, the last piece of the jigsaw is the pointed toe. This elongates your foot and helps to slim the legs. You might have noticed a pattern during the course of this article: thin and curvy is the ideal shape and it will increase the attractiveness of your shoes (and the same is true of your clothes, too).

We would recommend opting for a more expensive type of shoe, such as the Rieker ankle boots. Thin heels and pointed toes can cause problems for your feet, and these are much more likely to occur if the shoes are poorly designed. By sticking to a reputable brand such as Rieker or Clarks, your feet will look great, but more importantly, will be well looked after too.
