You see and hear it everywhere, what wedding dresses and styles look best on you. What compliments your shape well and helps you look and feel your best. Let's face it, we all come in all different shapes and sizes so there is a style out there perfect for each one of us. This topic is obviously the most important to think about in regards to the most important dress you'll wear, your wedding dress. With all those different wedding dress styles out there, it may be difficult to know which one will flatter your figure best.

A-line (Princess):

The most versatile and flattering of all the wedding dress styles, it is fitted around the bodice as it flares out into an 'A' shape and falls to the ground. This style is extremely popular as it is flattering to just about anyone, no matter what your body type. For the pear shaped figures, it is the top choice as it hugs the natural curves of the upper body, thus accentuating the top half of the body while camouflaging the lower half. However, you may want to avoid the a-line wedding dresses if you are searching for a tighter fit dress.

Ball Gown:

This might be the most dramatic and formal of all the wedding dress styles. Its classic and elegant look is composed of a form fitting bodice, that leads down to a very full, floor length skirt. Much like the A-line silhouette, it flatters most figures and is especially good at hiding large hips. But it is also very flattering to brides with narrow hips, as it can give you more of a curvy look. However, there is a risk of getting swallowed up in the volume of the dress if you are rather petite. For a large bust, the ball gown wedding dresses will help create an hourglass look.  The waistline is emphasized by the fitted bustline and natural, dropped or basque waistline.

Empire Waist:

Starting with a high waist seam that begins just beneath a fitted bustline, the skirt styles can flow freely, or be a bit more fitted, depending on what is most flattering to your particular body shape, while falling with a slight flare. This style is very flattering to those with thicker waists as it can sweep softly over your curves. The empire waist style is often paired with a square neckline and wide straps or sleeves. Like the A-line, the Empire Waist style is very versatile and can accommodate whatever level of formality the wedding venue requires. While the empire style fits well on most body types, it's especially flattering for those brides with a smaller bust since it draws attention to the neckline.

Trumpet Fit (or Fit-to-Flare):

Presenting an exceptionally beautiful silhouette, these head-turning dresses are relatively form-fitting through the torso and hips, and then begin to flare out around mid-thigh. This creates a very flattering shape and provides enough room around the legs to walk comfortably. This is a nice option for curvy brides who are looking for a formfitting dress that's slightly easier to move in. Trumpet fit bridal gowns are sometimes referred to as 'fit-to-flare' dresses as the straight-lined skirt subtly flares from the knee toward the hem in a trumpet shape. If you're not comfortable showing off your shape, you may want to avoid this style.

Mermaid:

Curvaceous and very form fitting, this wedding dress style is typically for the very confident bride. Mermaid wedding dresses hug the body all the way down to the knees, where the dress flares out. This is  shows off ALL of a bride's curves. It screams sophistication and elegance, yet can be chosen for a barefoot beach wedding or formal ball room affair. Perfect for brides with hourglass figures, but if you don't want something tight, we would not recommend the mermaid.

Sheath:

Simple, sleek and elegant, a sheath wedding dresses can fall nearly straight down (sometimes referred to as 'Column') from the neckline to the hem, or it can hug the curves, accentuating the torso, waist and hips. Although flattering for several body types, depending on the fabric chosen, the Sheath or Column Silhouette may not allow much room for hiding certain problem areas, like a larger lower body. However choose your fabric carefully (heavier is less form fitting) this can be a stunning choice for your wedding. This is the most popular wedding dress style for beach weddings, as well as other destination weddings. This silhouette looks great on brides with sleek figures. If you're more pear shaped, it may cause you to look a little unbalanced.
