What to wear for a day at the races

Royal Ascot is upon us, which means the summer’s social calendar has officially started and the races attire has started to hit the high street. As the races fashion kick in it can be seen both on the racecourse and off it, meaning you should be prepared with a wide-brimmed hat or fascinator.

You may want to plan your outfit around your headgear or the other way around, no matter what it may be make sure you plan accordingly. There may be a dress code for the day you are attending, so make sure you check before you go, otherwise you may be left a little red faced. Ladies day is usually dressed up to the nines with hats quite a common sight, but not a necessity.

If you’re not a huge fan or patterns then a plain dress is just as popular and acceptable as a patterned of floras dress. You can accessorise your plain dress to make it glamorous without taking any attention away from you.

Not showing too much flesh is a big thing at the races, it is a sophisticated day out for ladies, so don’t go over the top. Showing cleavage or legs is fine, showing both, is not. Also, take a cardigan with you, of a jacket, as the day goes on it may start getting cooler and you done want to be shivering all evening. Remember, this is England; the weather can be very unpredictable.

When it comes to shoes, they can either make of break your outfit, so make sure you choose carefully. If you are wearing a plain dress add some colour with a colourful pair of heels and if your outfit is already quite busy, keep the shoes subtle.

There are some fantastic dresses for the races choices available ay Pushka Fashion Boutique.
