What protects pedestrians in the dark

Especially when the days are short and dark, the risk of being overlooked and injured in traffic as pedestrians or cyclists increases. To clarify the danger and to give important information on proper behavior and clothing in the dark and bad weather, the traffic safety adviser of the police yesterday in the royal court gallery presented the action "safety through visibility".

The event was a continuation of a project that began in 2016 with the distribution of 15,000 reflective tapes to date. Above all, older people liked to be advised and listen attentively to the explanations. In addition to information leaflets explaining the functioning of reflective material and fluorescent materials, there was also advice on how the "weak road users" should dress and how visible, depending on the clothing style, is in the dark. "It's hard to tell if accidents were caused by dark clothing, but it's certain that this clothing favors such incidents," says Kirsten, traffic accident prevention officer.
