Maharashtrian Style:

This style of saree requires a nine meter in place of a usual five and a half meter. The strange thing about wearing a saree in this manner is that no petticoat is required. In wearing saree in Maharashtrian way, one portion of the saree (extra length portion) is drawn up between tucked and the legs (just like a dhoti) in behind at the waist. However, the other portion of the saree is draped as a Pallu over the shoulder or can also be used to cover the head. This form of saree provides better freedom of movement.

Nivi Style or Andhra style:

This style originally worn in the state of Andhra Pradesh and is a very popular fashion in India. Besides the modern Andhra way, people also wore the kaccha nivi, where the pleats of the saree are passed between the legs and tucked into the waist at the back.  Nivi Style provides free movement whilst covering the legs.

The Bollywood style:

Bollywood has a great impact on saree draping. The fabric and materials used to make saree or the adornment work done on them may be different for Bollywood sarees, but new trends and fashion have always been promoted and encouraged by Bollywood in India. Bollywood sarees have extremely small pleats and drapes around the waist. The pallu is narrow and cover ups only a part of the torso. The pallu goes between the breasts and leave most of the midriff uncovered. Bengali style:

Northern Style:

The saree drapes the traditional way in the north of India and the end portion of the Pallu covers the bosom. Sarees have skirt pleats in the front the Pallu is thrown around the shoulders with covering the chest while the modestly cover the bust. If you want to look more modest or humble in the front of elders like in front of your father in law or mother in law, you can wear a saree with northern style.

Gujarati Style:

Also known as the seedha pallu way and is also worn by women in some of the northern states, including Rajasthan, Utter Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. The basic distinction in Gujarati style is that the pleats of the saree face the right while in other style pleats face lift. Besides, the Pallu brings from the back to the front side from the right side and stretches across the chest while the left corner is thrown at the back in the petticoat.
