Top 5 Celebrity Fashion Trends We Would Rather Forget

We’re going to need a fad-tracker on our iPhones to keep up with all the changing trends. Although, occasionally, fashion brings us something truly fabulous to our wardrobes, there are many fads which we would rather forget. As we tend to get some of the direst trends from the world of celebrity, we think it’s time to look at which fads should remain fashion history.

Baggy Jeans

It’s said that the baggy jeans fashion trend originated in jail cells, when prisoners were given oversized clothes and not allowed to wear belts. Rapper, Ice-T, boasted in 1988 that his ‘pants are sagging’ in his track, ‘Colours,’ and in the early 1990s, saggy jeans took off in a big way. Aside from the fact that you’re showing everyone your undies, this whole look is a style no-no. Put it away!

Some people hate this fashion trend so much that, in the town of Delcambre, Louisiana, you could be put in jail for up to six months for showing off your panties. We agree! Lock them up for fashion murder, and throw away the key.

Acid Wash Jeans

If you’re fortunate enough to have been born after this style trend, you might be wondering what acid wash jeans are. The name isn’t trying to fool you: they are jeans that are washed in acid to fade the dye and create white streaks. Made cool by 80s hair metal bands like Poison, we are completely baffled about how this ever took off in the first place – only in the 80s, eh…

Gold Teeth

As we know, rappers like their bling (they rarely shut up about it), but even this seems a step too far – coating half your mouth in gold is extreme, as well as a hygienic nightmare. If you want something shiny that bad, check out pearl and butler silver jewellery – don’t turn yourself into a swashbuckling pirate. Captain Jack Sparrow may be hot, but you’ll notice that he has all his teeth intact. Public Enemy star, Flavor Flav seems to have started off this fad in the 80s; oh, the 80s – you have a lot to answer for.

Miami Vice

Oh, look! Another horrendous 80s fad. The Miami Vice look was supposed to be the epitome of manliness. This style embraced pastel t-shirts, high-waisted trousers, loafers with no socks, and a five o’clock shadow. What on earth were they thinking?

Bicycle Shorts

As sports equipment, we will begrudgingly allow that bicycle shorts have their place. Nobody likes getting their favourite skirt caught in cycling machinery. However, spandex bicycle shorts were worn (yes, in the 80s) by everyone in the music community. Even Axl Rose from Guns N Roses was at it. Thank god the 90s were just around the corner to cover everyone up in unflattering plaid shirts. We’ll take that any day over a pair of bicycle shorts that hide absolutely nothing.
