The most common areas of jewelry are earrings and necklaces, since these are pieces that women wear every day, for various occasions. Although rings too can be included, but they are not really good for daily use and are usually relegated to wearing only during outings or events. Earrings are perhaps even more used than necklaces, since most women get their ears pierced at a very young age and usually wear some type of earring in their day to day life.

For the daily use, women will mostly go for the pure metals like silver or gold, that are not harmful for the skin if worn for long periods of time. However when it comes to wearing for a special get together or function then women do experiment and try out different styles and metals. An easily found style is that of the jhuma or jhumki, that almost every woman has in her jewelry box. Jhumka are a very traditional accessory, as they have an antique but still trendy look to them. They are also decorated with intricate patterns, motifs and designs.

Jhumkas usually give of a very Indian look, but jewelers in South Delhi and other areas have played with the idea and made it more versatile and edgy in some cases. The hoop is a western type of jhumka and more suitable to be work with outfits like a jeans and shirt.

Even still, some people are not able to understand how to make these work, and in a bid to be fashionable, make mistakes that can ruin their look. Thus, here are a few tips that one can use on how to get the best out of jhumki earrings:

1. Don't Wear with Western Outfits:

Simple plain hoops are one thing, but wearing heavy and Indian jhumki with western wear would clash horribly. It would be a major fashion faux pas, so never wear jhumki if one is wearing a western outfit.

2. Choose according to Face Type:

One might like a big set of earrings designs in diamonds, however, it is also important that they compliment the shape of one's face. A small and thin face bearing heavy jhumka can look as out of place as a big round face wearing small ones.

3. Keep it Simple:

Avoid pairing up big and blingy jhumki with a statement neckpiece as it can give a very cluttered look. Keep it simple and if one the jhumkas are showy and large then it would be advised to sip the neckpiece altogether. That way, all the attention will go the earrings.
