Know the Restrictions and Limitations

Each country has their own set of rules regarding what can enter within their borders. Some of these tend to be universal such as no perishable items, including certain types of food. However, there is also a great deal of variation from place to place. When in doubt, check on that country’s government website or ask the delivery service. It is best to err on the side of caution, however, so don’t post anything that may appear to be suspicious or alarming to customer’s agents.

Choose the Box Carefully

Since you are making an effort to send this individual a gift, surely you want it to arrive undamaged and in one piece? Therefore, choosing the right packing boxes is the first decision that you will need to make. Avoid using something that has previously been used. Instead, get a new strong box that has no dents or tears. You should also take care to reinforce the carton properly. Use strong tape and pay special attention to the flaps or hinges on the container. If you feel as though there are any weak spots, make sure to support it with tape. Don’t use gift wrap on the outside of the container. Instead, wrap up the gift first before placing it in the container.

Understand the Charges

There may be certain taxes or charges levied against you for the gift that you are sending. This, too, changes from region to region. This cost is not included in your courier delivery price. Therefore, you may need to do a little of research to figure out how much you will need to pay. Among other things, the cost of the item that you are sending will figure into how you will be charged. Remember, if you don’t want the recipient to have to pay any charges, you will need to take care of that from your end.

Provide All of the Details

It is important to provide the courier service as well as the customs agents with all of the information that they need. In fact, the more the better. Make sure that the details are accurate, up to date, and that they have been clearly stated. This will prevent any misunderstanding from taking place. Also, it will help to make sure that your friend or family member will receive their present on time. You should give the necessary individuals all of your contact information as well. This way, they will be able to contact you to clear up any questions they may have.

These are just some of the things you should make note of the next time that you want send somebody a gift across international borders.
