This Week was the first ever men’s dedicated fashion week in New York. It was an inevitability after the big players starting in London, Milan and Paris all hosted their respective men’s fashion week’s with huge success, New York picks up and carries on with its commercial feel and sales driven focus. An easy acceptance for New York based designers.
“Mean what you say.” I’ll never forget when someone said that to me at my first NYFW. I also learned you can’t butter up a PR agent in New York… nyway this season’s Tim Coppens collection reminded me of that very New York mentality. Jackets with such unique textures and colors that you would have to know yourself in order to wear them (but more importantly pull them off). Baubles cling to a sweater that would make a topic of conversation on any date or coffee meeting this side of the Atlantic.
“Why don’t they have the types of sandwiches listed on a menu at this Deli?” I was completely lost at my first real NY Deli. Why don’t they have the types of sandwiches you can order on the menu? The guy looked at me was said simply “What would you like?” “… I can pick anything?” I asked, “Avocado’s extra.” he said rolling his eyes. 10 minutes later I ordered the most delicious sandwich I’ve ever eaten.
That simple conversation blew my mind to this day, and I love when a collection makes me really think that I don’t need a menu to wear it. Pick the piece that resonates with you and your style and wear it. Just wear it. You don’t need me to tell you how, just wear it.
I love that!
Of course you have to know yourself to wear this collection or YOU WILL GET LOST IN IT. And don’t get confused with having a loud personality. I’m talking knowing what you like, what resonates with you – what will taste good… and wearing it.
