Three people have died on the county roads since the beginning of the year

Three fatalities, a dozen or so people injured - the beginning of 2019 was tragic on the roads of the Kart poviat. Police officers appeal to all road users for caution: - Winter is a difficult time, weather conditions change, which has an impact on driving - they emphasize.

2019 did not start happily. In just one month and a half, three young people died on the roads of the Kart poviat: a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy as a result of an accident in Kowtow and a 19-year-old who died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident in Poncey. In addition to this, in other events that took place on the county routes, a dozen or so people were injured. Policemen from KPP Kart appeal to drivers and pedestrians for caution.

- The winter period is a very difficult time for road users - both drivers and pedestrians. Changing weather conditions have an impact on driving, wet and slippery surface often covered with ice causes longer braking distance - they emphasize.

It is important to increase the distance from the vehicle ahead in such conditions, and before the intersection start the process of stopping and signaling maneuvers earlier than usual.

- Remember to adjust the speed to the prevailing conditions on the road, i.e. safe speed, which in difficult weather conditions is often lower than it results from road signs - they mark the uniform.

Police officers also turn to pedestrians - each of them should be equipped with a reflective element in order to become more visible to the driver. They can be reflective tapes, reflective vests, and items attached to clothes.

- They should be placed at the level of knees, elbows, around the center of the chest and back - then we will be sure that they are clearly visible to other road users. It is worth recalling that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit - without a reflection is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing reflective clothing can be seen even from a distance of 150 meters, which allows the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian - explain the policemen.

Officers also appeal to drivers of cars to closely watch the road and pay special attention especially to pedestrians who do not have reflective tapes - during the dark mornings and early nightfall they are almost invisible on the road.
