They can save our lives

The autumn-winter period is quickly falling dark, changing weather conditions and limited visibility. All this causes the so-called unprotected road users, in particular pedestrians, are particularly vulnerable.

In the interests of common security, police officers call for wearing reflective vests. Mandatory use of reflections applies to all pedestrians moving around after dark in non-built-up areas. Reflectors significantly improve the visibility of a pedestrian and can save his life. The driver will notice the pedestrian in a much earlier way equipped with a vest or a reflective band.

We would like to remind you: Every pedestrian, which moves along dusk outside the built-up area, must have a reflector placed in a visible way for the drivers.

Many pedestrians comply with the new regulations, unfortunately, people who continue to risk their lives happen. Remember, a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle at a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing reflective elements becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters.

The largest number of pedestrian accidents usually occur in the months when it is dark early. Unlit roads, lack of designated areas for safe pedestrian traffic (especially outside built-up areas) and inappropriate use of roads by pedestrians themselves cause many road accidents. It happens that pedestrians enforcement priority on passing cars, forgetting that the car cannot be stopped in place. Often, pedestrians do not realize that they are hardly visible from the road. It is worth recalling that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle at a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing reflective elements becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters. These extra meters allow the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian.

From August 31, 2014, all pedestrians who move around the dusk along the way outside the built-up area must have a reflection visible to the drivers. An exception is provided in the regulations: a pedestrian can move around outside the built-up area without retro-reflective elements if it is on a road intended for pedestrians only or on the sidewalk. The new rule does not apply in the residential area - where the pedestrian uses the entire width of the road and takes precedence over the vehicle.

The reflective fabric may include attachments for clothing, headbands, vests, and leashes. It is important to place them: the reflectors are recommended to be placed at the level of knees, hands, around the center of the chest and back - then we will be sure that, they are clearly visible to other road users.

Let's be seen for motorists especially now when the darkness falls earlier and earlier. The use of reflective vests by all pedestrians moving around in undeveloped areas is a DUTY. The use of reflective materials by pedestrians in the city is a REASON.
