These days you can’t flip through TV channels without someone teaching you how to “Look Good Naked”, telling you “What Not to Wear” or how you can look "10 Years Younger"!  These shows all portray the same message, helping people love the way they look.  Whether you’re changing careers, a new mom struggling with a post baby figure, or a professional seeking a more polished look, a fashion stylist can help you look and feel your best.  A stylist will help you choose clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories that compliment your body type, age and personality.

First of all you will want to research fashion stylists in your area, comparing services offered and pricing.  Some stylists will go to your home and help sort through your wardrobe to determine what you should keep, toss or donate and organize the rest. Some stylists may meet you at a mall and take you to different stores or take you shopping at local boutiques, depending on your budget and style preference.  The cost varies depending on locale; in Calgary and Edmonton expect fees to start around $100.00 per hour.  However, Blu’s Womens Wear offers this in-house service free of charge to all our clients.

A fashion stylist starts by assessing your lifestyle and body type.  She will ask questions, listen to your concerns and learn your personal preferences.  She will choose clothing that reflects your personality.  She could pick an outfit that you probably would never have picked out for yourself like a Luisa Cerrano dress or Eileen Fisher cardigan yet they could become your new favorite designer fashions.

Having a good relationship with a fashion stylist will ensure you’ll always be on top of the latest fashion trends.  She will teach you rules to follow when making purchases in the future that will coordinate with your new wardrobe.  She will help you develop your own sense of style that flatters your body type which will help improve your self-confidence.  If you choose to work with a Blu’s fashion stylist she will know your wardrobe and be able to call you when new designer clothing arrives that will coordinate with the fashion designer pieces you already own. She will also be a phone call away as a quick last-minute-fashion-adviser when needed, - all free of charge!

Here are several things you will want to consider in finding a stylist that “fits” you.

When you meet the fashion stylist you should feel at ease with her.  She should be able to relate to you in a manner that you are comfortable with.  She should be friendly, approachable and easy to talk to.  You want this to be a positive, fun experience and enjoy her company as you will be spending a fair amount of time with her.

She should be knowledgeable about the stores and boutiques she takes you to and the designer brands they carry while sharing her experience without being intimidating.

How does the fashion stylist look?  Does she look appealing to you?  She should be well groomed and dressed attractively in a manner that is flattering to her body shape.  This doesn’t mean she should have the same style as you but it will give you confidence that she will be able to help choose clothing that will compliment your body shape.

Lastly, communication is the utmost important.  You want to be able to communicate well with the stylist.  You need to be comfortable asking questions and feel at ease talking to her.  It’s important that you feel she is giving honest opinions and advice.  It should seem like you are shopping with a friend who actually has excellent fashion advice and taste.

Be warned, finding a fashion stylist will change your life!  You are going to hold your head higher, view the world with a more positive attitude because you are going to love the new you.  At Blu’s we help our clients experience more professional confidence and power;

        They have always had it on the inside - we just help “perfect” the outside.
