Onam is one of the biggest festivals of Kerala, and for Malayalis all around the world. Onam is celebrated each year in the month of August-September which marks the return of legendary King Mahabali. It is signified by ten days of festivities and carnivals in Kerala. Hence, with a festival so important and significant for the people, the onam collections dressings and attires have to be amazing too.
Mundu and saree, the traditional wears of men and women of Kerala, are the usual gifts. The traditional Kerala sarees with golden borders are perfectly matched with blouses of almost any color, though green and red seem to be the most popular. And golden borders or embellishments on the blouses just make it all more festive. Girl kids wear pattu pavada in white and golden color.
People of Kerala make elaborate preparations to celebrate it in the best possible manner. Intricately decorated Pookalam, ambrosial Onasadya, and exotic Kathakali dance are some of the most remarkable features of Onam - the harvest festival in Kerala.
Another enchanting feature of Onam is Vallamkali, the Snake Boat Race, held on the river Pampa. It is a colorful sight to watch the decorated boat oared by hundreds of boatmen amidst chanting of songs and cheering by spectators.
