The Most Stylish Formal Dresses of 2017

Every woman has had that moment of extreme excitement that goes with planning their first formal dance.  For many, this is a moment in their adolescence accompanied by a slightly awkward date, and a great deal of parental fuss. Regardless of how if comes to pass, the formal is generally remembered for the dress.8843744885?profile=original

The hour upon hour spent perusing different shops with either a parent or a giggling group of friends. Trying on more dresses than you can count, and waiting to look in the mirror, and to know that you’ve finally found the perfect one. The dress that you just know will make you beautiful for that one special night.

Many of us grow up with these dresses still hanging in our closets, as a reminder of the glory days of our youth.  Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to pass these along to our daughters when the time is right…if they want to wear them!

What makes a classic?  What makes a dress so stylish that it can make a return visit to the dance floor almost twenty years after the fact?  You can try shopping at an online USA clothes store, but consider some of the suggestions below before clicking that “buy now” button:

Grecian- With a Twist

The long taffeta Grecian gown with the clasps at the shoulder falling into a deep V-neck has made a definite comeback.  What’s been done differently is really the color.  It has the same peekaboo slit up the legs, and the same light and airy appearance as it has from other years.  Instead of the light blues or glittering whites, it’s being done in bold new colors that really shock with the light floating appearance.  This classic takes on a whole new dimension when it’s being done in burgundy or even in bright red (if you have the complexion for it).  The truly bold may even favor this dress in black- with a sparkling overlay.  Don’t be afraid to embrace your inner goddess and shine like the night sky this year!

The Two Piece

This really sounds much more risqué than it actually is.  The two piece generally consists of a dress that has both the top and bottom completely separated.  For those who are comfortable- a small area of the stomach can be exposed.  Many of these dresses have favored the mermaid skirts as of late, accompanied by a form fitting top with a keyhole bust line.

These can also include sleeves.  This is a new addition to the two piece’s look this year, and one that can add an entirely new layer of elegance to a look that’s already just a little bit edgy.  Many ties the sleeves are being done in a see through fabric- elegance without the constriction!  Just remember to always try two pieces on to make sure that they fit correctly.  Some schools will turn away prom goers if they believe that too much skin is being exposed.

The Illusion Cutouts

We’ve all seen our favorite starts hit the red carpet with what appears to be a full dress- until you get up close!  Then you notice that half of the fabric has been sacrificed to cutouts that actually expose copious amounts of skin.  You’d never get away with this at a prom, but there are ways to get that look without exposing that much skin.  Hence the “illusion” part of this look.  The dress will appear to have the risqué cutouts with a skin tone colored fabric that matches your tone.  This makes it looks as if your wearing something that’s barely there- while still managing to get past the strictest of guidelines!
