The importance of having the right pair of shoes

“Please sir, you can take my Fendi baguette, you can take my ring and watch, but you can’t take my Manolo Blahniks!” That Carrie Bradshaw sure knew what’s up. This was actually her talking to the thief who jumped at her in the middle of the street and wanted to steal her shoes. There is something about them which makes us women feel the unbelievable power. Shopping is our drug and having the right pair of shoes is more important than you think. Is it because of all the nerves that are residing on our feet, or maybe because we truly believe that a new pair of shoes can change our life somehow (seriously, just ask Cinderella)? We might never really know.

When you look good, you feel good - simple as that.

Whatever you say, the way we look is a very important thing for us gals. It would be nice when all the women in the world had the same body type, so we wouldn’t have to deal with all the stress when we find out that some piece of clothing we liked very much, doesn’t look good on us. Right here my ladies, we are discovering the most beautiful fact about the shoes: they don’t care how tall are you, they don’t care how heavy are you, they look the same and beautiful on everyone, period. Have you ever seen a girl who didn’t look good in stilettos? Please. When we look our best, we feel confident and strong and that is all there is to it.
Oh, and I almost forgot about the bonus point, did you know that some men just LOVE to see a woman walking in some sexy pair of high heels? It can be called foot fetish, but it is actually a strange psychological phenomenon. The thing is, the part of our brain responsible for our feet is really close to the part responsible for our genitalia, and what happens is that, sometimes, that two slip into each other’s territory. The funny thing is that this is a very common thing nowadays.

Higher power

Did you know that people are wired to associate height with power? This basically means that high heels can raise your status and boost your confidence, since they make you taller than you are. In previous centuries, especially in European countries, only the ones who were extremely wealthy had the privilege to wear high heels. Take a look at pictures of Louis the XIV. The most powerful man in France that has ever walked, loved to wear heels (originally they were made for men, yes, but that doesn’t matter now). They were the measure of class, style and power. It is really crazy what a pair of shoes can mean to us, right?

Shoe shopping awakens our primal instincts

Even though humans have evolved since the stone age, we are born hunters. Shoe shopping is actually resembling this instinctual habit. When we think about shopping, dopamine starts rushing through our entire body. When we arrive to the shop, or find an online store it is still there, but still not reaching the top. The shopping itself symbolises the hunt, so that’s why we are feeling an incredible accomplishment when we find what we are looking for and buy it, in this case –the thing we are looking for are shoes. When you swipe your credit card or take your cash out, that is the moment when the adrenaline and dopamine are reaching the climax. After all this hormone rush, you are feeling safe, happy and accomplished (since your pray is now in your hands – good job you little hunter), and that is what shopping is all about.

“The fact is, sometimes it’s hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then – to make a walk a little more fun.” – Carrie Bradshaw, Sex & the City.
