The African Wrapper

The African wrapper

THE WRAPPER (IRO)

The programme of study continues on my specialise field of study, research and practice in the field of Fashion design to re-generate the African wears; using the African traditional wears (African Wrapper, indigenous African fabric and accessories) for the project.
This is a passion to build a bridge between Africa fashion and Western world through the medium of fashion and will focus the project on Africa Wrapper, (Iro drape)

“Culture encourages innovation and experimentation…  “   (Gans, 1974)

The project collections are base on the idea of modern woman who is a global traveler. Her style is in part defined by incorporating African dress wrapper cultures, traditions and customs. The project was particularly inspired by the idea of modernizing and celebrating certain traditional African costume (Wrapper), fabrics, and costumes.  As globalization continues to thrive, “Culture produces diversity and it is naturally revealed in all human action, including the product that people design (Moalosi et al., 2005s, R se, 2004).”

Would there be a way of modifying a traditional African garment (Wrapper) to render it more attractive globally ?
