The Advantages of Photography Studies

My father had a penchant for photography. And it seems (or so he tells me), it was my grandfather who became a fan of photography, when one of his old friends – an officer of the erstwhile British Raj – showed him the intricate workings of a camera that he had brought from England. That moment started the love for photography in my family. I have inherited that love and passion.

Members of all the three generations were self-taught photographers and did not have any formal learning of the art and science of photography. My grandfather taught all that he knew to my father. But although my father taught me the basics of photography, I lost him when I was still young enough to grasp the intricacies of this most delightful hobby. I was deprived of learning photography from my father, who, to my knowledge, was one of the most brilliant photographers and yet his art was never exhibited to the world, despite my mother’s wishes that people appreciate his art. Long story short. My father was happy with his clerical job (which paid well enough to live a decent life for my family) with the Government and he enjoyed his passion for photography whenever time permitted.

Not having completed any photography studies, I found the transition from analog to digital cameras pretty difficult and a bit awe-inspiring. Although it did nothing to bother me professionally, I decided to learn photography.

I searched for photography classes India and narrowed down on a good academy in the city. It was offering full time diplomas and part time certificate courses in photography. It also had a tie-up with a leading camera brand and was an authorized training institute.

I have been living in Chennai since my birth and my family has belonged to this city for the last ten generations, I am told. I believe that Chennai is amongst the most camera-friendly city I have ever known, having travelled to many cities in India and abroad, thanks to my job with a software company. I simply love photographing in Chennai.

Photography Chennai also affords me the luxury of a city that moves at a decent, not frenzied, pace. I visit the beach and parks or even the roads and streets and I find hundreds of picture-worthy frames that I want to capture. Through the diploma course that I completed, I got to know my camera better; I learnt the intricacies of focusing at different apertures, positioning points, real and implied triangles and other such enjoyable things. I believe that I am a much better photographer now than I was earlier.

I guess every person who enjoys photography should be serious enough to learn the art and science of this wonderful hobby from professionals. This would give them a whole new perspective to photography and make them appreciate it even more.
