Summer Outfit: How to Select the Right Shoes

8843518871?profile=originalWith so many styles to choose from, picking the right pair of shoes can often feel overwhelming. Make no mistake, shoes can make or break an outfit, but you’ll be a few steps ahead of the game when armed with these style tips.

Find your ideal heel height
Heels not only make your legs look longer, but give you confidence when worn with some sensibility. Stilettos can empower you, but aren’t easy to walk in, so wear them when you need to power dress but don't need to move around too much. Block heels are more stable than stilettos yet they add style to any outfit. Wear them with a cropped wide leg trouser to stay on-trend and comfortable.

If you’re not one for heels, then flats are for you. This is especially true if you often clock up long distances. If flats don’t suit your outfit, but there’s a need for you to be able to walk far, consider a kitten heel. Kitten heels are great for when you’re on your feet all day but want to enjoy the femininity that comes with wearing a heel.

Consider the colour
Black shoes may be versatile, but they’re not the only colour you can wear. When chosen with care, coloured shoes will add a splash of colour to your outfit and help you to stand out for all the right reasons. However, it’s important to realise that certain shoe colours are best teamed with certain clothing colours:

  • Red shoes go best with pink, orange, blue or neutral outfits. Avoid pairing them with racy outfits as they offer enough excitement on their own.
  • Green shoes go best with brown, black, blue, yellow or neutral outfits. Avoid pairing them with red or orange outfits, unless you want to look like a pumpkin.
  • Blue shoes go best with yellow, brown, white or neutral outfits. Blue is like black’s edgier cousin; it adds pizzazz without making your outfit look over the top.
  • Yellow shoes go best with blue, black, white or green outfits. Avoid wearing this colour if you’re fair skinned as it may make you look washed out.

Shop with an eye for size
When looking for shoes that complement your outfit, it’s all too easy to forget the importance of finding the right size. Shoe sizes, like clothes sizes, vary from brand to brand, so make sure you try your shortlisted shoes on for size. Your feet are unlikely to be the same size as each other, so make sure you base the size of your shoes on your largest foot’s size.
