StyleWeek Providence, New England’s premiere fashion week, announces that Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer will be its exclusive national charitable partner, with events throughout the inaugural StyleWeek to help raise awareness and much-needed funds to battle ovarian cancer.

Providence, R.I. (March 12, 2010) -- StyleWeek Providence has chosen Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer as its exclusive national non-profit partner for its inaugural event this June.

As the partner charity for StyleWeek Providence, Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer will participate in all StyleWeek events June 5-12, 2010, striving to raise awareness and funds.

“Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer is an amazing organization that fights to save women’s lives through education and awareness of ovarian cancer,” says StyleWeek Providence’s Executive Director, Rosanna Ortiz Sinel. “Amid the many women’s health concerns today, ovarian cancer is too often overlooked, so we are honored to assist in this mission to heighten awareness and combat this deadly disease.”

At least 15,000 women die each year from ovarian cancer and, specifically, in the United States 1 in 56 women develop ovarian cancer, making that more then 26,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

Each night during StyleWeek Providence, various venues will host after-show events where the public will have an opportunity to mingle with the designers, celebrate the fashion, and see the evening’s runway shows broadcast on big screens. At these events, Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer will partner to raise funds through special promotions. While long a fashion-aware non-profit, this is the first major fashion week that Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer is partnering with on this scope.

“We couldn’t be happier to forge this partnership with StyleWeek Providence. Especially given the largely-female audience at the fashion events during StyleWeek Providence, this partnership has a natural synergy,” says Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer Director of Operations Lisa Collamore Tocci. “We are thrilled that StyleWeek Providence selected Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer as their exclusive national non-profit partner, and very much looking forward to collaborating on this fantastic event in June.”

About Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer

Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for ovarian cancer in three critical ways. First, by providing critical funding of new and ongoing ovarian cancer research and treatment initiatives. Second, by actively increasing the awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of this silent disease. Third, by giving hope, education and comfort to those currently battling ovarian cancer through its patient programs. The organization was founded in 2006 by nine-year ovarian cancer survivor Patricia Franchi Flaherty, who also lost her mother to the disease. Patty decided to dedicate her life to raising awareness of the risk factors and subtle warning signs of this often overlooked women’s cancer so no other women would have to endure what she did.
