Style Up | Beach-Ready Tips

Often when I see others on the beach, I notice most whether or not people are enjoying themselves.  Regardless if they are strolling down the sand, playing a game of toss, or simply reclining to soak up the most sun, I think it’s essential to enjoy and relax while on the beach.  Getting too caught up in your appearance or worrying detracts from the experience.

That being said, many of us secretly wish that we were a bit thinner when beach time comes around.  And so, as an ode to summer and the (hopefully) many beachgoing days ahead,  I’m offering some beach-friendly, slimming tips and tricks.

1. Regardless of your skin tone, it can’t hurt to use what pro photographers use on models: a body lotion with shimmer like Burt’s Bees Radiance Body Lotion that reflects light and makes your body look more sculpted. Or, use an oil like Banana Boat Tanning Oil, which gives you deep, rich glow (and smells fabulous too). (Body oil is what pro body builders use to define and show off their muscles.)

2. Choose your bikini top appropriately, and you will look slimmer overall.  For small chests, look for tops with padding.  For larger chests, look for thick straps and underwire, which will support, shape, and lift the girls, making your middle look slimmer.

3. Lighter colors will make an area look bigger, and darker colors will make it appear smaller.  Contour your body using light and dark colors in your swimwear and/or coverups.

4. Use angles to your advantage.  Tie your sarong or cover up diagonally (across the shoulder or across the hip), to create the illusion of a slimmer figure.

5. Lastly, stand up tall and have fun!  Confidence is contagious and you’ll look your best if you are enjoying yourself.  Period.
