Jewellery continues to shine, even as fashion recovers from the loungewear phase of the pandemic. Whilst fashion trends have taken one or two steps back during this recovery phase, one thing which remains as strong as ever is jewellery - a much-loved accessory and must-have piece.

During lockdown, jewellery saw some huge increases in sales and search volumes, with one jeweller seeing a 100% revenue increase during the first lockdown. This shows that if there ever was a time to be invested in jewellery, it’s now, just as designers begin to redesign and reimagine their collections. Straight from the catwalk, let’s take a look at some of the summer’s hottest jewellery trends.

Bold and Beautiful

The trend for bold and beautiful colours is far from over and this summer, expect to see it in more places than before. With embellished chains, statement rings and creative designs, jewellert designers are becoming more creative than ever as they experiment with different materials, such as tile and ceramics, and the addition of diamonds and precious stones.

Mix Things Up

It’s long been an unwritten rule that you should avoid mixing different metals but this year, it’s in trend to mix and match your jewellery as you see fit. Mixing your metals is hugely on trend this year, whether you decide to layer metal chains or stack complementary silver and gold rings. Look to incorporate different styles, too with chunky chains and dainty necklaces or large gold statement earrings with silver stacking earrings. There’s no end to this trend, so layer and wear different metals as you see fit!

Retro Statements

Fashion always takes inspiration from decades gone by and, with this year’s summer jewellery collection, this is no different. 70s and 80s fashion is set to have a huge influence on this summer's biggest jewellery and accessory pieces, particularly when it comes to bold statement pieces. Whether it’s quirky metal cuffs or large statement earrings, every jewellery piece has had a vintage makeover this year.

Sentimental Pieces

They’ve always made the perfect gift for family members who you’re just not sure what to buy for, but this season sentimental pieces are set to see a huge increase in popularity, with a varied mixture of zodiacs, birthstones, astrology and initial pieces. Not only are they hugely personal gifts and pieces to wear, but they can strike up conversations between wearers.

Novelty Wear

Nostalgia is a big seller and when it comes to jewellery pieces, this is no different. Although bold coloured pieces are set to be big this year, playful novelty jewellery pieces are also set to be big. Think of those budget-friendly jewellery pieces you wore as a pre-teen, the bright and colourful pieces with big pendant pieces and bold colours, only with a mature twist.

Dior and Chanel were big trendsetters at the catwalks this year in terms of nostalgic jewellery pieces, so don't underestimate the trend just yet. You’re sure to be pairing a bright choker or statement earrings with a casual jeans and tee combo in no time!
