We all know that schema markup is important for one's website because it helps in improving the ranking of the website. Schema helps the search engines in understanding what a particular type of data means. Schema can help you in ranking all types of content in a much better and organized manner. You don’t have to learn a new set of coding languages with schema markup, as the dependency is only on HTML.

So, if you are planning to use schema markup for your website, here are some steps you should take for it.

  1. Check out Google’s structured data markup helper.

As you visit the webmaster’s link, you’ll be prompted to enter your website details. It is quite simple as you have to enter your website’s URL and select a data type you wish to mark up. There are multiple options shared. So, you’ll find your needed option on the list without an issue. Some of the listed options are articles, book reviews, job postings, products, events, local businesses, software applications, and more.

  1. Tagging data

Once you are done with the selection process, you’ll have to make sure that you get started with the tagging process. In this case, you’ll have to work on the data items that will make your website more search engine friendly. Of all, the only name tag is required, but filling in the other sections will only make things easy for your website to be found online. Once you fill in the ‘Name; tag, the tool will add all data items automatically, but you can always add missing tags and make it perfect for use. Apart from the name tag, other tags you can add are author, date published, image, an article section, article body, URL, publisher, and aggregate ranking.

  1. Creating the HTML

Once you are done with the tagging process, you get the option to create HTML. Clicking on ‘Create HTML’ will allow you to see the HTML of your page with the microdata inserted. You can check it thoroughly and be sure about the effectiveness of the same. If you feel that you need to make changes, you can always go back to the tagging process and make the necessary changes.

  1. Add Schema markup to your website.

Once you are done with the HTML creation, you’ll get the option to download the automatically-generated HTML file that can be copied with a click. Now, you have to go into your CMS and paste it in there. Once done, click on finish and test your schema.

While opting for schema markup is easy, you should know that you’ll even have to fix it as and when required. For the same, you should know how to fix product schema markup and be ready to stay on top of your preferred keywords on search engines.
