You know running across Stephen Burrows isn’t exactly easy these days… when you hunt for Stephen Burrows vintage pieces you do just that HUNT. One so many levels this man is considered to be one of America’s finest fashion designers of our time… In the 1970′s this man was on fire…. The first African American fashion designer to achieve international acclaim, he won several Coty awards in the 70′s and was one of the 5 American designers to show their clothes along with the French couturiers at Versailles in 1973 (the others being Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Halston & Anne Klein). I love this quote: “I consider Burrows the only original American designer since Claire McCardell,” Karl Lagerfeld, fashion’s most opinionated man, once said, “Why? Because he created his own rules about cut. It was sophisticated, original, unorthodox. ” I LOVE that quote about Burrows…..
