Spring is always a fun time for fashion. It's finally time to put away the heavy, puffy coats and wear clothing that makes you look and feel good again. Here are some of this season's hottest new trends.

Rompers

Rompers have been around for a while on the larger fashion circuit, but they have finally filtered down to affordable brands. A romper gives you the streamlined look of a very short dress with the coverage of a pair of shorts. They are hugely popular at music festivals because they are comfortable and look polished.

Botanical Prints

Botanicals are a fun alternative to traditional floral prints. While florals are by no means unfashionable, sometimes it's fun to try something a little different. Botanical prints like tropical fronds or large leaves look like florals at first glance but are a touch less girlish than roses or daisies. These prints open up different color options and have a casual versatility that normal florals do not always have.

Summer Scarves

Lightweight layers are becoming a major hallmark of this era of fashion. This spring and summer, experiment with scarves and ponchos as beach cover-ups. Don't pack your favorite shawl or poncho away in winter storage. Get creative and wear them over your bathing suits. Some retailers, like Paula & Chlo, even have tie-dye ponchos. These types of items don't impede your arms and can be thrown on quickly. Autumnal tones are especially in line with the renewed interest in '70s fashions. Skip the maxi dresses and try repurposing your winter accessories instead.

Laced Bodices

Another recognizable attribute of contemporary fashion is tops and dresses with crisscrossed laces over deep V-necks. On a practical level, the laces keep the necklines in place so you can wear these pieces comfortably and confidently. Aesthetically, they instantly add some edge to otherwise standard t-shirts and skater dresses.

Athletic Details

T-shirt dresses have seen a major resurgence with the grunge retread, and now ringer necklines and sportswear logos have been added to the mix. It's fun to wear a dress that isn't feminine in any way whatsoever, and a sports insignia or faded gym-style stamp gives the dresses an editorial air. Dresses in this style can be purchased at mass retailers for under $20 each, so they are a good bet for anyone who's shopping on a budget this season.

This spring is seeing the emergence of several new and fun trends after a few years of repetitive minimalist designs. This is bound to be a fun wild-card season with few rules while new trends are being established, so think outside the box and make unexpected choices to do your part in influencing style's new direction.
