Seasonal wardrobe organization

You know the script: you open your wardrobe in hopes of finding that lovely fluffy sweater that goes perfectly with your skinny jeans, but all of a sudden your lace crop top falls on your head, followed by no other than your bikini. And all this happens while autumn is in full swing. If you are familiar with this scenario, you should probably reorganize your wardrobe soon. For all those who think this is a strenuous and too demanding work, here are a few easy tips.

Seasons change – so should your clothes

With another change of season before us to look forward to, it’s easy to forget the stress of changing and rearranging your wardrobe accordingly. By thinking that some of that winter things will not bother you during the summer and vice versa you will simply be lying to yourself. One of the simplest and easiest ways to organize your wardrobe is to start by sorting out your clothes in the first place. Make two big piles, one labeled ‘summer’ and another labeled ‘winter’. All ‘extreme’ pieces go to each pile: bikinis, crop tops, beach kaftans, knit sweaters, and scarves. Once you have done this, the easier part is before you.

Clothes that stay with you

There are some pieces which you can wear practically all year long: soft hoodies, graphic tees, pretty dresses, etc. These clothes should be placed in your wardrobe in such way that they don’t take up too much space. The easiest solution is to place them on the middle or the top shelf, so you can always take the piece you need. Sometimes, a pretty tunic you love wearing in the spring can easily be worn in autumn too, if you pair it up with nice stockings and wear a trench coat when you go out. This is why such clothes should always stay somewhere within reach. Remember, layering your clothes is not only convenient, but also very stylish.

Storing the clothes you don’t wear

What to do with the clothes you don’t wear this season? The easiest thing is to take a big box and put all you don’t currently need inside. Place the box somewhere safe: on your wardrobe if you have high ceilings or ‘hide’ it on the bottom shelf behind sliding wardrobe doors. You can find a wide range of wardrobe doors in Brisbane, which can help you refashion your existing wardrobe into something more practical.  It’s important to keep the clothes stored somewhere else so they don’t mix with the ones you’re wearing this season. When you’re going through all your things, try to see if there are pieces which you did not wear for at least a year. If there are, you should probably discard them, because it is not likely that you will wear them again. You can put them on eBay, or donate them to someone less fortunate than you.

Keep your accessories close

Of course, there are accessories which simply cannot be worn every season, but plenty of them can, and this is one of the reasons why you should have a special place in your home for all the jewellery, bags, and scarves you usually wear. Innovative storage ideas can help you declutter your home quickly, and help you find the items you need more easily. Just make sure you keep all your accessories neat and tidy, since they tend to create more mess than a pile of clothes.

As with pretty much anything else in life, you should know that simply reorganizing will not change anything – you should change your habits too, and try to maintain the order you created. If you keep piling up clothes you don’t wear, you will soon be buried under a pile of clothes you don’t even need and be longing for some space. Reorganize your wardrobe every once in awhile – this way you will notice how you and your style slowly change and mature.
