It was 1993 and I was lucky enough to have purchased not just this Saarinen chair but 6 more and I paid $5 each. I got extremely lucky because my friend knew this man that had remodeled the IBM building in Atlanta and they bought up all the furniture. IBM like most corporate offices had their furniture provided by Herman Miller & Knoll and this Saarinen chair was manufactured by Knoll. These chairs are still in production by Knoll. Eero Saarinen was one of the most prolific, unorthodox, and controversial masters of the 20th century architecture. Although his career was cut short by death at the age of 51 in 1961, Eero Saarinen was one of the most celebrated architects of his time.
