Reinvent your closet with the basics

This weekend was awesome! On Friday I partied with my friends and met Tini and Jason from H.O.W.L. (OMG I love their work!) and none other than Carmindy from TLC's "What Not To Wear", she is as sweet and beautiful as she is on the show (and I couldn't stop thinking about my make-up and hoping my mascara wasn't all runny). On Saturday I worked all day long on a very special "Style Hunter" project (that I am sure you are going to love) and on Sunday I spent the day celebrating with my dad and of course watching Brazil win yet again (disappointed about Kaka...but that's another story)All in all it was a great weekend and I'm sad it ended so fast but with all the things I have going on this week I have no time to grieve. I have meetings with H.O.W.L., Ecoist and TAudrey, summer soiree and trunk shows with up and coming designers and (most importantly) my b-day celebration!!What is a girl to do with so many outings and so little time to shop for new outfits? Not a problem! The Style Hunter knows all about creating new looks with staple pieces and trendy accessories without breaking the bank. Let’s start with the basics every woman should have in her closet: a couple of white t-shirts and tanks, a denim jacket, a white (or black) button-down shirt, a black blazer and a pair of khakis. The basic white t-shirt: We all have them and love them and are so easy to wear, you can take them anywhere. To run errands around the city I keep it simple with a white t paired with my fave jeans, a couple of long metallic chains, wedges for shoes and a large hobo. At night, I like to pair it with a little black mini, metallic clutch and sky high pumps. Complete the after dark look with a bib necklace or oversized hoop earrings. The Denim Jacket: I love mine!! And for some reason denim jackets are never out of style (ok, maybe the big puffy ones are not "in" anymore...but you know what I’m saying) I bought mine at The Gap almost 9 years ago and it is the same one they have in stores today. I wear mine with my khakis and white tank top or with a flowy skirt or dress to give a more "girl-next-door" lookThe Button-Down shirt: Silky or starched, everybody's got one. The white shirt is without a doubt the must-have wardrobe staple, and taking such a simple piece to evening is a no-brainer – it's all about the accessories. During the day I like to keep it simple...pretty much the same than with a white t-shirt but with a more "put together" feel. At night you can be a little more daring and wear a cool printed, lacy or colored bra and unbutton the shirt so that just the very top of the bra detail is peeking out.The Black Blazer: To me my blazer is the most important piece in my closet. Not only is it as versatile and the white top but it is also very form fitting and flattering for every body type. For a more formal day at work, I pair my white shirt with my black blazer and look super sharp. At night I get rid of the shirt and put on a lacy top and long chains for a more romantic/sexy feelFinally... The Khakis: If you have seen any of the latest fashion mags you have realized that khakis are everywhere! Jen Aniston wears them rolled up to a ball game, Kim Kardashian wears her khaki shorts to run around town and every other model is sporting them for the Safari Summer look. All you have to do is add some color with a hot pink tank top, strappy sandals for shoes and voila! You are good to go.No matter what you choose the key thing is to remember that quality always goes over quantity especially when it comes to the basics.I have to go now and start preparing for my up and coming events.XOXOThe Style Hunter
