Fashions shows are supposed to be more creative, engaging and, aesthetically pleasing than any other event you have been to. People in the fashion industry are known for always pushing boundaries and coming up with interesting ways to showcase their vision, no matter if we are talking about a minimalistic collection, or an Avant-Garde one.

With all that in mind, putting together your first fashion show is certainly not easy, especially if you want to do it all by yourself. After all, it is the place where your creativity will be all out there for the people to see. To help take the heat off and give you enough time to focus on the collection, we have put together a list of tips to help you organize a show that will wow everyone present.

Establish a budget

The first thing you need to do, before thinking of anything else, is establishing how much money you are willing to invest in the event. Famous fashion houses usually have hundreds of thousands of dollars to put into organizing the event, but if it’s your first show, you may find yourself a bit restrained by the budget.

Keep in mind that the stage set, revenue, and models will be your highest expenses, so you may want to set a bit more aside to cover that. For the rest, all you have to do is put your creativity to work and find ways to do more with less.

Write all your ideas down

When you started working on the collection, you certainly did have a concept in mind, so make sure that the same concept is reflected in all the other ideas you have for the show, including the runway, seating places, decoration and marketing.

The first thing you need to do is make a list of all your ideas and then start going over them. Keep only those that work cohesively with your established theme and, of course, the collection. The whole concept needs to show through all the details, so make sure all elements go with each other.

Choose the venue

Think of the venue as the canvas where you can paint your entire concept. It needs to be a place that compliments your collection but does not take away from it. You want the focus to be on the clothes, but also for the people to feel like they just entered a different realm.

Again, you need to think of the concept of your show, and also the number of attendees. If you only have a small number of people attending the show, choosing a big venue will not only be too expensive but will also feel too empty. At the same time, for a large-scale event, choosing a small venue will make everything feel and look cramped.

Curate and cast the models

The models are the ones bringing your collection to life, so it is extremely important to pay attention to who you are casting. If you want everything to go smoothly, you need to pick experienced models, that know how to do their job and ensure your success.

Try to choose models that will stand out on the runway and can wear your clothes like they own them because when the models are able to create a connection with the clothes they are wearing, your show will be a success. You may want to start this process way ahead because it can take quite a while to gather the entire team.

Take care of the small details

After all your key elements are decided on, it’s time to start taking care of all the little details. Finding a good hair and make-up team is also very important, as they need to resonate with your vision and be able to bring it to life. Next, you need to consider fashion show music and how to arrange the seating area.

Last, but not least, food and drinks. If you want to get a chance to talk to everyone at the event, you need to organize at least a small afterparty, where your guests can have a drink and congratulate you. Keeping the concept of your event alive during the afterparty as well is very important, so you may want to consider hiring a themed catering team.

Don’t forget the guestlist

Last, but not least, it’s time to start thinking about the guest list. Fashion shows are a great way to promote your line, so it is extremely important to choose your guests.

First, think of the people you definitely want to be present at the event, such as photographers, press, and fashion people in your area. Then, go on social media and market your event, to attract other people as well. Keep in mind that, if you invite the correct people at your show, chances of marking a name for yourself in the industry will be much higher.
