Project Glass Eyewear

8843073064?profile=originalHave you heard about the Google Glass Explorer Edition?  Although the subject is “technology” based.  It is also relevant to “fashion”.  More specifically, Google Glass is relevant to “fashion accessories”.  This interesting technology can possibly be used by eyewear designers.  In my opinion, the technology should also be used by headwear designers.  Possibly, a screen that drops down from the brim of a baseball cap, cowboy hat, or other type of hat (I hope Google sends me a commission check if they use that idea...)

Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to develop an augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD). The first Project Glass demo resembles a pair of normal eyeglasses where the lens is replaced by a heads-up display. In the future, new designs may allow integration of the display into people's normal eyewear.

Though head-worn displays for augmented reality are not a new idea, the project from Project Glass has drawn media attention primarily due to its backing by Google, as well as the prototype, which is smaller and slimmer than previous designs for head-mounted displays. The product (Google Glass Explorer Edition) will be available to United States Google I/O developers for $1,500, shipping early in 2013.

The intended purpose of Project Glass products would be the hands free displaying of information currently available to most smartphone users, and allowing for interaction with the Internet via natural language voice commands, in a manner which has been compared to the iPhone feature Siri. The operating system software used in the glasses will be Google's Android.

8843073086?profile=originalProject Glass is part of the Google X Lab at the company, which has worked on other futuristic technologies, such as a self-driving car. The project was announced on Google+. By the way, if you use Google+ to learn about fashion and the fashion industry, I strongly suggest that you follow the Fashion Industry Network on Google+. If you specifically, want to learn about Project Glass, you can learn more on Google+ at the Project Glass section.

I am not sure where these glasses will be sold. If you are interested, you can keep an eye on the sunglass stores directory on Apparel Search, or possibly the online eyewear store. However, I am not sure if that will be the best place to look. Possibly, use the google search engine in 2013… Anyway, if you know any more information about the Project Glass and how it relates to eyewear, you are welcome to post comments below or post in the fashion eyewear group here on the Fashion Industry Network.
