Police officers remind you about reflections

Police officers of the Police Headquarters remind us of the obligation to wear reflective vests outside the built-up area after dusk.

Police officers from the Police Headquarters carry out information and education activities aimed at improving pedestrian safety. During educational meetings in schools, uniforms remind the youngest of the obligation to use reflective elements, while officers performing service on the roads check whether pedestrians comply with the obligation to use reflections.

The uniform reminds that according to the amendment to the traffic regulations regarding the use of reflective elements, pedestrians moving around after dark outside built-up areas are obliged to wear retro-reflective vests with reflective fabrics in a visible manner for other road users.

It is especially worth taking care of your safety in the autumn. Early twilight and difficult atmospheric conditions result in reduced visibility, which goes hand in hand with a decrease in the safety of a pedestrian road participant.

Reflective elements may include attachments for clothing, headbands, vests, and leashes. It is important to place them: the reflectors are recommended to be placed at the level of knees, hands, around the center of the chest and back - then we will be sure that they are clearly visible to the drivers.

It is worth recalling that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing reflective materials becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters. It is these extra meters that allow the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian. The legislator provided for a fine in the amount of PLN 20 - 500 for the lack of a reflective element.
