In light of the absence of John Galliano now ex creative director for Christian Dior, the old adage “the show must go on” was the operative at the House of Dior today. CEO Sidney Toledano made a brief speech saying, “Now more than ever, it is necessary for us to remember the values of the Dior house.” The collection was a bittersweet reminder of Galliano’s creativity with “The layered silhouette (that) evokes the dandyism of the English romantic poets…..”

The staff of the atelier dressed in matching white lab coats took the final bow and received a well deserved standing ovation, but the somber mood of the crowd remained as the realization set in that this was the final installment of Galliano’s genius for Dior.

Galliano show: There will be an informal presentation for the Galliano signature line Sunday, consisting of 30 looks that were already completed. “We just felt it wasn’t appropriate to do a classic fashion show,” says company spokesman, Alexandre Malgouyres. “But we’re doing John’s collection, for John, so that he returns quickly.”
