Article of the Month: The rise and rise of vintage fashion! written by Vanessa Power

Don’t Topshop it! Oxfam it!

So days are long and tiring, exams are slowly coming to an end, your boyfriend’s completely tuned to the World Cup, and you just need some ‘YOU’ time.

What better way is there to treat yourself to some TLC, than shopping!

Right now any true fashionistas should be receiving tones of emails, and catalogues from high street stores, designer labels and online clothing websites, showcasing this seasons ‘must haves’ as they say. Luring you to go online or pop into you’re nearest Topshop branch, and a buy a summery dress for £90.
Why not take that £90 quid pop into your local charity store, or fashionable markets such as Camden and Portobello market and grab your entire summer wardrobe. Except for your festival wellies of course which should definitely be from www.hunter-boot.com. With a wardrobe full of all your summer ‘must haves’ for just under £100, you can treat yourself to this seasons hot Chanel clogs.

Note; if you haven’t got a wallet like Daisy Lowe or vintage lover Paloma Faith, stay away from over-priced fashion brand vintage stores and online websites such as; www.liberty.co.uk, were retro garments rage from £100 to £995 and Beyond Retro stores. However, do try vintage online store,www.spanishmossvintage.com for cheap and chic dresses. No one wants to be left with loads of new trendy clothes but no spending money for your already booked holiday. Beware!

So the fact that your being advised to shop at Oxfam, and markets, places your granny occasionally visits may discourage you. However if its good enough for trendy, celebrity style Icon’s like Alexa Chung, Agyness Deyn, and even the Olsen twins ravaging through the charity stores trying to find those one of pieces to complete their signature look, then its good enough for us.

If your not so confident or keen on creating an entire outfit straight from a charity store, you can always ‘Mix and Match’ with designer labels and high Street.
