The sunshine appeared last weekend and Londoners took to the parks, seeking green spaces to bare skin that’s been kept under winter layers for too long.

It’s timely then, that the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) has picked this week to launch a new skincare regime. Ultimate Skincare is available in House of Fraser’s Oxford Street store for one week from 10 June. Pop in to find out more, or visit www.ultimateskincare.org.

The campaign is in response to an increase in the number of cases of skin cancer being diagnosed, coupled with findings that people aren’t checking their skin for changes and don’t know what the early signs of skin cancer are.

Every year, more than 100,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the UK. However, the average five-year survival rate has been estimated at 99 per cent if melanoma is detected at an early and treatable stage. Cue Ultimate Skincare.

Why launch a cancer detection campaign in House of Fraser’s beauty department though? Because, to capture the attention of a nation of people who often switch off when told what we should be doing health-wise, BAD has developed Ultimate Skincare, a luxurious-looking beauty product with a difference.

What appears to be a pot of the latest skin cream actually contains guidance on how to check your skin for changes, and a link to a website to show what to look for, as well as a mirror to check your skin.

Ultimate Skincare reveals four simple rules to follow so you can check yourself out, the ABCDE guide. Things to look for are:

· Asymmetry – do the two halves of the area of skin in question, for example a mole of coloured patch, differ in shape?

· Border – are the edges of the area irregular or blurred, something showing notches?

· Colour – is this uneven?

· Diameter – has the area of skin changed in shape or size?

  • Expert – if in doubt, check it out. If your GP is concerned about your skin, make sure you see a consultant dermatologist

So, to ensure you keep your skin beautiful for the sunshine, have a quick check now and get to know your skin better.
