Man Fashion: How to Dress Your Guy Correctly

If you’re dating a guy that lacks a sense of style, it’s almost an unspoken rule that improving his fashion is up to you. Transform his sports jerseys, baggy pants, and cargo shirts into tapered dress shirts, fitted pants, and a smart pair of leather shoes. While you don’t need to change your boyfriend or husband completely, it does make sense to give him that new relationship makeover.

Dressing Your Man

While you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe for your guy, he could stand to learn a few things about dressing better. Whether it’s lending him a few fashion tips or giving him the “yay” or “nay” when shopping, you both will fall in love with his new look.

Choose Fit First

One of the fastest ways for a man to look too frumpy is by wearing clothes that are ill-fitting. The magic of the right outfit lies in the way each item fits. Encourage your guy to wear well-fitting pieces by taking him to a tailor and focusing on only buying pieces that fit properly. Fit should always be considered in every outfit choice. Too many men think that the more expensive the clothing, the better they look. This, however, is never true. A man wearing a baggy suit will pale in comparison to another wearing a plain fitted tee with jeans.

Incorporate His Personality into His Style

Guys that fail to launch in the fashion department are usually trying to live out someone else’s expectation of style. Instead of encouraging your guy to dress more like you, show him how to incorporate his own personality into each outfit he chooses. So your man likes alternative bands and enjoys a laid back, yet polished look? Stock his closet with long-sleeve performance shirts to make sure he has a variety of looks to choose from that are perfect for his style.

Never Overlook the Shoes

Men with little sense of style tend to wear whatever is comfortable. Be it flip-flops or a ratty pair of tennis shoes, your man will never get his fashion together if he keeps wearing the wrong pairs of shoes. Up his shoe game by introducing him to popular styles of men’s shoes. From Italian loafers to leather sandals, let him know his feet have options.

Don’t Leave out the Details

Guys with the simplest outfits can still make a huge statement by paying attention to the details. Consider adding a pocket square to a blazer or swapping out his favorite tie from high school for a high-fashion, skinnier black alternative to say the most with the tinier details. Similarly, spend some time looking at accessories as well to make sure your man’s look is totally complete.

If you want your man to look his best, it’s up to you to show him how to dress. Follow these four tips to help you help your guys look his best.
