As stated on her Twitter account, it is difficult to classify Lydia Hearst in one category only. Heiress? Model? Writer? Philanthropist? Actress?

Some qualities have been acquired by virtue of her inherited social cast and others developed as part of her unique individual talent.

The name Hearst alone brings to mind many images, the Hearst Media Empire founded by her great-great-grandfather George, the gold prospector who became millionaire two centuries ago, his son, William Randolph Hearst, who inspired the Orson Welles film Citizen Kane, the Hearst Castle in California or Patty Hearst her mother, taken hostage by the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) in the 70's, ...

Far from the image of Heiress status where she could have just followed a mapped out career at one of the Magazines from the Hearst Group (Cosmopolitan, Harper's BAZAAR, Marie Claire, ELLE US, etc), she took the risk with her "Kate Moss stature" to be in the lime light and started a modelling career.

Lydia Heart's first magazine cover was for VOGUE Italia in April 2004, since then she has worked with some of the most renowned photographers in the world including Steven Meisel, Steven Klein, Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen von Unwerth, Mario Testino, Paulo Roversi, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Bettina Rheims, Mark Abrams, Peter Lindbergh, Terry Richardson and recently for Harper's BAZAAR en Español with Benjamin Kanarek.

Surprisingly, she had more coverage with VOGUE Magazine (Covers), Conde Nast Publication Group than with Harper's BAZAAR Magazines (title owned by the Hearst Group).

Like Millicent Hearst her great-grandmother who founded in 1921, "the Free Milk Fund for Babies" to provide free milk to the poor of New York City for decades, Lydia has been involved and active for few years in a charity called "Operation Smile". It provides free surgical interventions to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities of children. She just recently returned to a mission conducted by the organization in Panama.

Like her mother Patty did few years ago, she now is embracing an acting career and completed her first feature film this year by Bernard Rose, "Two Jacks".

Origins are obviously speaking loudly for Lydia and with "sa tête sur les épaules" (her head firmly planted on her shoulders) and her clear vision, ambition and hard work, we can expect a very long and illustrious acting career from her.

Below Lydia's Portrait written by the Editor in Chief of Harper's BAZAAR en Español magazine, Toni Salamanca.
