While Haute Couture is highly celebrated on the red carpet, many fashion insiders seem confused over the true concept of the term.

Four years ago, I made a short, personal film that documented my journey as an Armani Privé client. At the time, a British newspaper commented, “(Haute Couture) is such an elitist thing and no one really understands the process you have to go through to get a dress. There a

It’s Friday evening and the start of Oscar weekend. As I look out of my window, from high up in the Hollywood hills, I can barely see through the heavy mist and fog. My hairdresser and manicurist are both running late due to the treacherous rain and gridlock traffic.

The dress I had planned on wearing is not suitable for this type of weather and without sounding te

As I flew home from New York, I reflected upon the runway shows I had seen last week.

Donna Karan’s Valentines Day show was the perfect winter/fall collection. Old Hollywood Glamour meets La Dolce Vita. Stunning use of texture, including fur. Hourglass silhouettes, accessorized with pearls. Her pieces were elegant, sensual and sophisticated.

This was Donna Karan’s finest collection in several years and my absolute favorite of all the shows from Mercedes B

It is a frosty Sunday morning in New York City. Fashion Week has already begun with a spectacular birthday party for Sex & The City stylist Patricia Field at the old bank vault, The Bowery. Today’s shows include the Calvin Klein’s Men’s collections and one of my favorite American designers, Diane Von Furstenberg.

Over the next few days, the majority of the American fashion industry will be getting ready for New York Fashion Week. A publicist originally hosted the now-infamous fashion extravaganza in 1943 at the Plaza hotel. She named it named Press Week and back then, it was only open to fashion editors and journalists.  At that time, American designers were starting to separate themselves from the influences of French couture to forge a path of their own, by experimenting with indigenous

While we were enjoying Pulino’s pizza and brews at the preview of the new Rag & Bone store on Houston last night (more on that later), Diane von Furstenberg, Norma Kamali, and Prabal Gurung
were getting real with New York Times scribe Eric Wilson in front of a paying audience for the latest edition of the newspaper’sTimes Talks series at the beautiful The Times Center just across from the picturesque Port Authority Bus Terminal. Given the reports leaking out on v

BioCouture: Growing Clothing in a Tub

We thought we’ve seen it all with eco-friendly clothes: from recycled plastic bottle suits to solar-powered bags by Diane von Furstenberg, it was only a matter of time before a designer turned to microscopic life forms for inspiration. That’s exactly what Suzanne Lee,a senior research fellow at the School of Fashion & Textiles at Central Saint Martins in London did. Although, she didn’t just turn to bacteria—she also used a few large tubs, some yeast, and a few cups of green tea. The result is

Like so many successful designers (Diane von Furstenberg,Steven Alan, etc.) Scott identified a need in the market not through protracted analysis, but going shopping and finding nothing to wear. “I was being asked by lots of clients to, sort of, supplement their wardrobes… It was a moment in fashion where everything was pouffy and frouffy and ruffly and big, and it didn’t’ suit me personally. That’s how I started to do my own collection—out of pure frustration.” So, if there’s something missing

For the next few months, New York City’s Midtown will have a few new residents on its sidewalk– 32 to be exact. The Fashion Center’s Sidewalk Catwalk opened just yesterday featuring 32 mannequins decorated by some of city’s top fashion designers including Diane von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, Badgley Mischka, Thom Browne, Jason Wu, and many more. We took a trip to the heart of the Garment District to visit New York City’s latest public art exhibition, which extends from Herald Square to 42nd St
