Is it just me, or are modern day high school prom gowns just much less romantic than vintage prom dresses from the days of our parents and grandparents? I can’t help but feel bored every time I see yet another frilly, taffeta gown and a boy wearing aviator shades with his tux. I’m not even a fan of the two-piece sets, as quasi-unique as they may be.
If you too are feeling less than inspired by today’s modern prom attire, you might enjoy taking a walk down memory lane — other people’s memories,

Mainstream fashion of UK is overtly blessed with creativity and excusive attractiveness. And when such overwhelming facets are been attached with tradition and nostalgia; enrichment enriches. Contemporary vintage fashions extraordinarily suggest the same. 50s / 70s social and economical changes have effectively generated the fashion statement of the day today. Induced with supreme modernity, bygone fashions are thus back and how!
With many of the style doyens and icons, splendid plead of vintage
1. Sleeves with delicate lace.
Two years after Kate Middleton introduce this trend, the wedding dress of British Royal Wedding continues to speak in the world of bridal trends.
The trend shown lace sleeves with sleeves to the wrist or three quarters. Furthermore, lace sleeves has evolved at this time, becoming more transparent, lightweight and designed in embroidered fabrics that stretch, sometimes even the neckline or even the back. This trend is also consistent with the growing trend of weddings
Short lace top and A line taffeta skirt bring a sense of contrast, make it fresh and full of mystery.
Classic simple summer bridal dress, the most suitable choice for summer wedding ceremony.
Silk jacquard dress, romantic sweetheart neckline, sash at the waist set off the perfect outline of the bride.
Like a fairy down to the earth, smart and elegant, falling down in the million flowers.
Two-piece wedding gown, the A line skirt well cover the shortcomings of bride's figure, elegant and vintage.

How important is confidence? I’d say pretty important. It helps determine how others see us, how we carry ourselves, and most importantly how we see ourselves. Over the years I’ve come to find how one obtains self-confidence varies from person to person. Some people attribute life experiences or personal accolades as a means to feel confident. Others will attribute the opinions of others to determine their level of self-confidence. For me, it’s a combination of things, and one big factor not
I’m always so happy to add another Scott Barrie into my collection for DOUBLETAKE - my high end consignment store in Atlanta. Scott Barrie isn’t one of those names that everyone that walks intoDOUBLETAKE recognizes unfortunately but he was a big fashion designer back in the 60s & 70s. He was one of the first African-American designers to earn fame in internationally fashion. He was over the top huge back in the day, he was in the same category as Stephen Burrows and Willi Smith.
Every time I get lucky enough to collect another Moschino piece for DOUBLETAKE my ultra high end consignment store, I do the grateful dance… I’ve been in love with this brand now for 30 years and it has never failed to let me down, not even once. Moschino hired Jeremy Scott to be its new creative director, Scott is a LA based designer that replaced Rossella Jardini, who has headed up the label since 1984, when the house founder, Franco Moschino died. I love this little black button d
Albert Nipon always designed classic and basic pieces and even to this day is sold at Neiman Marcus & Lord & Taylor and even on 1stDibs… This maxi 70s vintage Albert Nipon 3 piece set is just outstanding. The color, the cut, the simplicity of the piece is just timeless. To stumble upon a complete 3 piece vintage set in pristine condition is just over the top… The woman who wears this little number has a lot to say to the world…. I’m Daniel Troppy your vintage luxury curator!
Will you just look at this vintage 80s Pierre Cardin wrap dress with original belt and try not to pass out on me??? It’s beyond hot, it’s beyond anything you can ever imagine and it’s from the 80s. Just look at all this style this dress has to offer… It blows my mind. In 1945 when he became acquainted with French film director Jean Cocteau and Cocteau hired Cardin to design dresses for his film “Beauty and the Beast”, which premiered in 1946, the same year that Cardin began work
Daniel Troppy’s online magazine…Lilli Ann wrap LBD is just the ticket…
I love finding labels I haven’t blogged about and today’s blog post is about Lilli Ann. This brand was created in 1933 in San Franciso and was named after Adolph Schuman’s wife Lilli Ann. This brand quickly grew in popularity and became known for their beautiful, elaborated suits & coats. Lilli Ann became known as the brand as the provider of elegance and high fashion wool suit
I just eat it up when I land myself a vintage Stephen Burrows piece.. I just eat this label up. LOVE isn’t even the correct word to use here. Stephen Burrows, one of the most influential black designers in U.S. history, and the FIRST African American designer to become a household name… He launched his company, landed a spread in VOGUE magazine and began selling his designs at the legendary New York boutique Henri Bendel. Burrows dressed celebrities from Diana Ross, Bette Midler, Grace Jone
Several weeks ago a consignor dropped off Bill Blass An American Designer book for me to look at and between you and me I want to keep the book!!! Everyone that has come intoDOUBLETAKE has enjoyed flipping through the book and looking at old photos of his brilliant designs. This sexy red vintage 80s dress is so NOW it isn’t funny but then again it’s Bill Blass. The Bill Blass label has always represented gracious and sumptuous clothing: American chic, characterized by casual sophistication a
Everything about this Guy Laroche piece is magic and would you believe it came out of a flea market? Yes a flea market where the world opens up to a new adventure to anyone that is curious… This vintage Guy Laroche jumpsuit is so NOW so current it isn’t funny and to think it came from a place that is all about recycling. Flea markets, thrift stores, consignment boutiques, yard sales, estate sales etc etc all supply the consumer with an option to buy “green”, to buy something that is recycled
This is the first time I’ve written about Jean Louis so I’m very excited to share with you a little of his history. Jean Louis was born in Paris France and moved to America to work in Hollywood where he dressed every major movie star on the planet and won an Academy Award of costume design. For over 40 years, Jean Louis designed for every Hollywood actress such as: Lana Turner, Vivien Leigh, Joan Crawford, Julie Andrews, Katherine Hepburn, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Kim Novak, Marlene Dietrich a
I love anything vintage Halston IV but when it comes from Bonwit Teller you know I love it even more.. I love this 70s vintage Halston dress for 103 reasons but I’m to busy to list them all for you, you will just have to take my word for it… Bonwit Teller was a very high end department store that was founded by Paul Bonwit in 1895 in NYC. Sadly it is no longer with us… They carried only the very best brands like Beene, Courreges, Missoni, Pierre Cardin, Kenzo, Hermes, Ungaro and of course Halsto
Scott Barrie is just one of my favorite designers that was gone way before his time…. Scott Barrie was an American fashion designer known for his sexy matte jersey dresses in the 60′s & 70′s and sadly died in 1993 at the age of 52. Way to young! He died of brain cancer which is tragic beyond words. Scott Barrie, whose real name was Nelson Clyde Barr, was born in Apalachicola, FL of all places one of my favorite spots to go chill… At the age of 10 he whipped up clothes from his grandmother’s
Can’t you just see Goldie Hawn wearing this 60′s Geoffrey Beene Beene Bazaar long flower pattern dress? I sure can… From the “Laugh In” days ! I love that the collar area and sleeve cuffs are polka dot pattern. I LOVE that… It has the original belt and this piece is so vintage it’s fabulous. I would put my client in this vintage Beene piece with some Tom Ford or Alaia heels to bring it into today. Love Geoffrey Beene but you would have to be from another planet not to… I’m Daniel Troppy
