Geoffrey Beene vintage 60′s dress….

I love vintage Geoffrey Beene especially 60′s Beene.  The lines and shapes of his 60′s pieces are off the wall hot not to mention sexy.  The fabric on this piece is very thick wool and will you just look at the pockets on this dress !!!  I hope you enjoy this brief video of the history of Geoffrey Beene…  I’m Daniel Troppy and I’m your luxury curator!

I found this Missoni men’s dress shirt inside a thrift store and damn it if the shirt is to big for me.  I first looked at the label and the next thing I looked at was the size and when I realized it wouldn’t fit my ass I knew Mitch was in for a “gift”.  It really does pay to be the boyfriend of a professional thrift store shopper like myself.  When you look inside Mitch’s closet it reads like a Who’s Who of the fashion world.  I’m constantly giving him Helmut Lang, Burberry, ETRO, Versace, Brio

I wanted to write a joyful send off to my artist brother Darrell Troppy who is flying to Paris today for a juried art show at THE LOUVRE.  He was selected out of thousands of artist to show 3 paintings at THE LOUVRE so yes he is going to be there …  My brother and I are cut from the same cloth, we both are determined, strong willed, unshakable, dedicated, stubborn and most important we are tenacious.  All very excellent qualities when it comes to achieving your dreams.  Darrell and I hate the wo

This is a joyful yet sad blog post and here is why.  Remember when I did that SPECIAL REPORT about Dawn Kaufman and her striking gold at an estate sale?  Dawn purchased all these fabulous vintage pieces that still has the Neiman Marcus tags on them left over from the 80′s at that estate sale.  Fast forward, I get an email from my ultra stylish friend Nancy telling me that she spotted a huge collection of vintage pieces at a thrift store and I need to stop by and check  it out.  Well thank you Mi

Honey this blog posting is all about the 70′s.  That’s right mamma all about the good old 70′s when the discos were hopping and there were lines of coke on every nightclub tables.  Oh the good ole days!  Well this blog posting is a bit more conservative in style but nonetheless it still packs the same of 70′s punch. Nancy and I were shopping one Sunday when she plucks from the rack this bright pink 70′s cashmere Pringle of Scotland sweater and hands it to me and said “I know you love this label”

You can never have enough vintage Yves Saint Laurent men’s shirt or at least that’s what my voices are telling me…  Haha GotYa!!!  I don’t hear any voices in my head other than the voices from dead fashion designers….  Let me tell you if any old dead fashion designers were to talk to me, I would pray that it would be Yves Saint Laurent.  The man was just a brilliant friggin genius, no doubt about it.  This vintage 70′s YSL men’s shirt is quickly becoming my new favorite item in my closet and let

I will always hunt and gather up vintage Louis Feraud pieces.  ALWAYS.  Look at this friggin hot abstract pattern Feraud vintage 80′s blouse will ya?  It’s so off the chain hot it’s burring my fingers as I type this post.  Louis Feraud was a French fashion designer & artist.  In 1950, Louis Feraud created his first “Maison de Couture” in Cannes and by 1955 had established a couture house in Paris.  Every major movie star of that time period flocked to him, they worshipped him, they loved him!

Twelve years ago I bought a set of Walter Von Nessen table lamps from a friend of mine who was cleaning out her house and just wanted to move them.  Walter Von Nessen was a lighting and furniture designer that was born in German and emigrated to the US in 1925.  He excelled in lamp design, and he adopted the modern trends from Art Deco to functionalism.  The set of lamp I purchased for $150 which is rock bottom and extremely reasonable when it comes to anything from Nessen.  Soon afterwards I ha

Tadashi Shoji eye candy silk cocktail dress…

Tadashi Shoji is a Japanese born American fashion designer who is known for his red carpet gowns – think Octavia Spencer when she won the Oscar for her performance in ‘The Help’.  Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdale’s & Nordstrom all carry this fashion brand and with good reason.  I found this Tadashi Shoji cocktail dress that still has the tags hanging on it at the thrift store.  Yes mamma I did!  I’m a scrappy shopper and one that doesn’t mess around so when I see Tadashi Shoji that still has th

I loved this piece so much I actually bought it from one of my stylish consignors.  I started doing my research and discovered that this lovely sequin top by Cathy Hardwick actually has some history, and I love history.  I discovered that Tom Ford was creative director for this label from 1986-1988 and this was designed by him during this period and you can definitely tell that he carried this touch on to Gucci with him.  Tom Ford did an internship in Paris for Chloe at the very beginning of his

The best thing about my life is not only The Thrifters blog but it’s my store called Doubletake Recycled Luxury.  I wrote the blog which lead me to opening Doubletake Recycled Luxury Boutique but I love meeting people and hearing their stories.  I hear stories all day long about particular pieces and I really want to share this one with you….  The kindest gentlest soul on the planet is the lady that owns this Chanel gown.  Her name is Cheryl and back in 1985 she needed the perfect dress for an e

I love what I do, just love it.  I got another email from Nikki Hall, who recently scored big at an estate sale awhile back, and just had to share with me her 2 most recent treasures.  I love it when people actually take their time to contact me because we have a connection, a common interest – thrifting !  We love to find vintage luxury items anywhere we can and try to save them.  Did you know that when some thrift stores don’t sell items they either ship them to Africa or simply shred them?  Y

It was 12:30 and I was so hungry but had to stop in the Goodwill first, shopping over food!  When I walked in I spotted my friend Nancy shopping away.  Nancy is one of Atlanta best dressed women and I’m dead serious when I say that.  Nancy is the kind of lady that will walk into Neiman Marcus and buy a dress and then get into her car and drive to a Goodwill and look for the perfect vintage belt to go with it.  I love that mixing of high / low / new / vintage….  It’s the perfect way to shop in my
