Let it shine all summer long

Shimmer was huge during winter and fall and this summer it has returned stronger than ever, but you need to be cautious when adopting this trend because it can go from fab to drag very quickly. I have put together this short list of the Do's and Don'ts of shimmer to help you look fabulous all summer long.Let’s begin with the make-up. During the summer months the heat and humidity make our bodies sweat and our faces shine more than usual, so why add extra shine with the make-up?Don't: Use glitter and heavy shimmers all over your face, they will only contribute to the shine factor.Do: Get a natural glow with a tinted moisturizer that will help keep your skin nurtured and your make-up light. I like to add a sun kissed feel with my Bobby Brown "Beach" bronzer and a touch of shimmer with a light pink lip gloss. At night you can glam it up with a smoky look accented with shimmery metals like bronze, gold, and silverNow let’s talk clothes. I love sequins...sequin shoes, sequin dress, sequin top...sequin everything. But again you have to be weary of how much sequin you are going to wear or you might end up looking like grandma Yetta from "The Nanny".Don't: Over do the sequins. Summer is about staying fresh and light, not crazy and costumy so leave the all sequins look for the show girls in VegasDo: Add shine with one statement piece and keep the rest neutral. For example, if you are going for the all sequins top pair it with simple pieces like leggings or denim, neutral flats or pumps and a simple clutch. Follow the same formula for all sequin dresses, skirts and blazers and you'll have no problem.
Last, but certainly not least, the accessories. To me, the right accessories can totally make (or completely destroy) an outfit. You can be sporting the most beautiful Marc Jacobs dress, but if you paired it with the wrong shoes, bag or jewelry…that’s it…you’re gone. On the other hand, you might be wearing the simplest white t-shirt and jeans but make it look totally chic and new by adding a trendy hat or awesome shoes.Don’t: Go overboard with the shimmer in the accessories. You’ll end up looking like the love child between Dorothy from the “Wizard of Oz” and Elton John…not a good look at all.Do: If you decided to add the shimmer with your clothes, keep the accessories simple. You can still wear a metallic shoe but don’t overdo it with embellishments. On the contrary, if you prefer to add the spark with your accessories you can have all sorts of fun with embellished (not bedazzled) clutches and shoes. Personally, I like to “frost” myself with jewelry…give me a big cocktail ring or statement necklace and I’m ready to go.No matter what you choose, when it comes to shimmer always remember that less is more.Bring the shimmer with a great personality and you will always shine no matter what you wear!XOXOThe Style Hunter
