The Akubra hat


The Akubra hat was made famous by its inventor, Benjamin Dunkerley in 1872.

Akubra is an Aboriginal word which means head covering. Its inventor was a Tasmanian fur cutter. it was a broad brimmed hat shut off your face seven rabbit skins to make.

Over years it has evolved to include kangaroo and cowhide.

The Wife Beater (Blue Singlet)


The wife beater, a politically incorrect and comical name to describe the kind of men who tend to wear the singlet, is a blue singlet typically worn by outdoor workman truck drivers.

Modern safety regulations require that workman to wear brightly coloured clothes, the blue singlet continues, undeterred, to be the mark or Australian masculinity.

Blundstones


Blundstones, like a lot of Australian fashion for the working man or woman.

Still hugely popular in Australia, these Blundstone boots and our popular all over the world. They are famous, not only for their workability but for their fashion.

The Drizabone


The Drizabone coat is an Australian classic. It is a Stockman's riding coat made of animal skin and oiled to keep out the wet weather.

It is an early settlers garment to keep out wind and weather for drovers Jackaroos on long Journeys. Famous for its durability and longevity, the Drizabone coat has seen many transformations, though the essential garbage has remained the same.

Gators


Another traditional middle class, working class garment.

The Gators are Ward over the shoes and socks in order to keep awayBoots and feet a little cleaner and a little dryer. Often used by gardeners and landscapers, they keep out the grass seeds and things that would otherwise itch and prickle.

Ugg Boots


The classic, all warm Australian shoe. The UGG boot is popular among Surfers on the Australian Coast. Since its humble beginning as a warm shoe with a leather sole, these boots and our famous all over the world and worn by middle-class families and celebrities alike.

Sandals


Australia is a hot climate. That has made the invention of comfortable and cool clothing a necessity.

The sandal is a classic example.Typically a leather or plastic shoe that buckles over the foot, The sandal is worn in school, at the beach, at around the yard.

Not many people know this but sandals have been known to save lives and defeat kidnappers.

In 2003, a couple were kidnapped in Colombia with a group of other tourists. The kidnappers, noticing that the couple was only wearing sandals, assumed that they would not be able to travel through the jungle. Not knowing that durability of the sandals, they let the sandal-wearing couple go.

The rest of the party were taken off by the revolutionary armed forces of Colombia for 3 months and did not resurface until Christmas in 2003

Speedos


Truly a classic piece of Australian history. The speedo is a snug; someone even called budgie-snug, piece of male beach clothing. Though the swimmers are worn by men and women, it is the male speedo that has become popular around the world.

Sometimes referred to as "budgie smugglers", this swimwear has been the choice of life savers and anyone wanting to be seen in public spaces by the Sea. It was the 1976 official supplier of all competing countries in swimming events

In March 2007 Dutch swimmer Pieter Hoogenband Embarrassed Nike in 2007for wearing and winning in his Speedos. His explanation was that his Speedos made him go faster and that winning was everything.
